The best take is from deansbimmer, who is much more familiar with these cars than almost every single person on this forum:
"The e93 is still no slug. Most drivers couldn't tell any difference in the way it performs compared to a coupe. Every time I drop the top and floor it I'm reminded why we wouldn't trade it for a different M3. But then again we got it as a street car, it'll never see a track. It depends on what he wants to do with it. The e93 will carve any canyon at speeds enough to have you thrown under the jail if caught. Also- not all e92's have carbon roof. More don't have them than do." If you don't track it regularly, you're absolutely lying to yourself if you think you can easily tell the difference between the two. I've been in all 3 of them and driven them, it's imperceptible. Besides, the same people who yell about how the vert is slower also then buy a 6MT, which dings the 0-60 a non-negligible amount too, and stays in the power band worse. It's almost as if you buy a car to enjoy it if you're not a professional driver, and not for competitive edge (so literally 99.99999999999999% of people on this forum). But then again, these are the same people who think they can feel a 10-20hp difference in a 415hp car when they change their intake or their pulleys, even though they 100% cannot detect that kind of difference by feel. |

MrGatsby you know in FL, especially O-town you would only have the top down 1 month out of the year to avoid Pollen, easy bake oven sun, bugs, or rain. People thing FL is the state for convertibles but it's just always too hot.

I am now in NorCal where it's no longer the perfect place all year, but SoCal (my birthplace) is the f*ckin ZONE for verts. Tons of E46 M3 verts there, and E93 M3 verts, and everyone in the verts/coupes/sedans alike is very happy and waves to each other. There are so many verts in LA, and there's virtually zero stigma about it because roughly half of the nice exotics you see are verts too. |

When I had my Z3M convertible here in FL, I drove it for a majority of the year with the top down. Any chance I could get, I would do it. That being said, I completely agree with your statement as many times it was far too hot for the top to be down (for the average person). But for those perfect moments where the sun is setting, wind is blowing a cool air, and the sky is clear, man having that top down was a great experience.

MrGatsby I grew up in Gainesville and lived in Tampa Bay for 3 years, even the motorcycle would get toasty. My Z32 with T tops I never take them out except when it was like 50-60 degrees. So when it's night time or the weather is juuuuuuust perfect, yea, it is hard to beat.
fatalelement My fiance is from Santa Cruz, so I can totally see having a convertible car in SD or SF would work. Hell, I'd probably rock one in Portland or Seattle just because I like it cooler, but I have 2 wheels for that itch.

Given that, the vert has a special coating on the leather that resists heat and UV light.

Yea, FL has this thing called humidity. It can still be 90+ degrees and swamp like even at night.

Whereas in MI we put it away for 4 months of so, then drive with the top down for 4-6 months, except when it's raining. I love having a convertible in a place where it rarely goes above 90.

I have a E93 in Florida. A little bit south compared to Winter Park. I'm on the brink of getting test pipes/Stage II tune as I am currently stock. I can't say that i've been in a E92 to benchmark it off of, but I can say that (I don't track btw) the 400 extra pounds isn't that big of a deal to me. It's still a solid car, and while I probably don't put the top down enough, it sure is nice!!

I drove in Germany and it was fast enough for me. Now I am in Hawaii and loving that I can drop the top daily. E93 is a great car. So is the E92. Just personal preference.

If you're looking for a great practical sports car thats a convertible at the same time, its hard to beat the e93 m3! 8 years later, I have no regrets.

Why is this even a question? If you want a powerful convertible then this is your option. If your sole focus is tracking your car this isn’t it.
Also, this is not a family car. It’s no different than the e92 coupe. Don’t plan on car seats. |

The lines from the hard top look odd to me and I really hate the chrome trim. If I'm getting the coup is hard to pass up the sexy CF roof and the weight savings of the coup over the vert. The added complexity of the folding roof scares me. The reduced practicality of storage space gets away from what I love about M cars which is the mix of practicality and sport.

How about that! I think my company built and owns it. We have a couple of projects in TN, most are east of Nashville but at least one is right where you describe. Although there could be a ton in TVA territory, so who knows. Cool picture either way!
