Anyone local to Irvine, California?

My actuators and thermostat are toast and I wouldn't mind a forum member that has some knowledge and the right tools to help me out.

BMW offered to do it for 5,000 usd lol
I would obviously offer some compensation.

Thanks

It's a suspect shop Gary. Spencer interviewing their Rod bearing mechanic is priceless.
I see, wasn't it just the whole oil viscosity thing that got people upset?

It was the shop as a whole. If it's the same place. Which I'm sure it is. A member had an issue with their pricing on his insurance claim when owner gouged the bill and the other was Spencer interviewing their mechanic about rod bearings. His answers were priceless. I guess no one told the mechanic that Spencer has a lot of eyes on his Instagram or he certainly would never have agreed to be interviewed about a subject he knows so very little about.
SSR Performance was the ones who did his Rod Bearings, they're in Orange County

With this one they removed the two chrome nuts on the actual plenum, those two are just for show no need to remove them at all.

I've called around town and gotten mixed information and have spoken to my mechanic several times. I've given him the link with the step by step and videos off of YouTube to guide him. I guess he quoted me 10 hours based on what the local BMW dealership suggested and a program called Pro Demand recommended.

He's been my mechanic for a couple of years and I trust him, so I'm going to go with him. If the job only takes 2 hours then he will only bill me for 2 hours. I'm fully confident he will do the job right. I'm 100% confident he will not overcharge me.

You don't need any special programs lol. You simply take out the old one, put in the new one, clear your codes and done.

These dealerships and Indy shops are lying out of their teeth. It does not take 5 hours to do this job. Even the book time, which is about 4 hours is totally exaggerated. It takes two to three hours max. We replace these units in one hour at the most.

I think we should start a thread getting feedback from different members across the states and Canada reporting their quoted prices and shop names so it could help future members. Perhaps I'll start this thread soon. One customer told me he was charged 2k for the indy shop to replace the gears in his old units and put them back in. Of course, they failed within two months and the poor guy has to buy units now.

If I could interject a question into this discussion...

Do these throttle actuators slowly go out, with an intermittent cel, giving you some time to get the parts sourced and replaced?

Or do they go out of nowhere and your car is garage until fixed?

Or can both scenarios apply?

Mine are slowly going out. Started one day with CEL + limp mode upon startup. After a few more of the same start ups, I can clear code then drive normally. WOT will trigger limp mode again, so I stay off it.

New TAs arriving from FCP Euro this week.

Got my car back today after the TB was replaced. To say the least I am VERY happy with the results with my mechanic! It took him just over two hours. Thank you to everyone that helped.
