Updating 'Motion' maps

I am about to update my 2010 BMW with CIC to 2015 Europe-West maps with a USB stick. When I insert the stick it says 'Update will start while vehicle is in motion'. Has anyone done this update? Does the car have to be 'in motion' for the whole time it is updating? What happens if you stop - does it just carry on updating when you move off again or will this mess it up? Sorry if this appears a bit thick but I do not want to muck it up. Thank you.

My M3 sat in the garage while I updated the maps.

Did you have the 'Motion' version of the maps?

I did do a couple of searches but could not see any threads specifically related to the 'Motion' maps. Short of reading every post on about 7 pages of results...

I would be grateful if you could direct me to the relevant threads.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. My nav does have the little tick in it and the USB is in the glovebox. My concern is what happens if you stop the cat before the update is complete. Does it just carry on from where it left off when you restart the engine?

So, you may be interested to hear that I am now running the Europe West 2015 maps. The update was very straightforward but for Marvins like me here are a few points:
* For the Motion version of the maps a 16GB memory stick is ample. I got a Kingston DataTraveler G4 USB 3.0 16GB Flash Drive from 7 Day Shop for less than a fiver delivered in just a few days.
* The maps should be recognised when you stick the USB in the glovebox port. You accept the update and immediately it goes to the screen for you to enter the FSC code.
* When that is entered it just goes back to map screen while you drive.
* You can now go to the Navigation Options and select map update and you see a progress bar
* If you stop moving then the update stops and restarts when you are moving above about 15 mph.
* I switched off the car and took out the fob. It simply carried on from where it left off when I restarted the car and drove off. Overall it took just less than an hour with the car in motion to complete the update.
* The system then restarted and after a tense wait the maps appeared looking exactly the same as before! However the info screen show the maps are now 2015 version and I have tried a full postcode search and it works fine.
* No cats were harmed during this update.
So my advice would be just go for it. At the price that you pay on here for just the FSC it is an absolute bargain.
