I don't think I'll be trying to get a car transported into Houston...the cost of that would offset the savings I get from out of town. I am looking for a contact name and dealership for a person who recently bought a 2009 off the lot in Houston. I understand a lot of pre-order people got about $2000 off MSRP on a 2009, but that is pre-order. Perhaps the dealers don't do such deals for that on cars sitting on the lot, which doesn't make sense, since the dealer wants to sell the cars asap.

It's not really the shipping cost that kills you its the tax. They call it a use tax and basically what they're doing is charging you Hawaii sales tax on any vehicle imported into the state that is less than 1 year old I think. That tax plus the cost of shipping pretty much eliminates any savings you could get from a mainland dealer.

I'm not the guy he's referring to, but I'm getting an ordered '09 for $1000 over invoice as well. It's really not that hard to get those kinds of deals right now in SoCal.

You can call on me if you like, but it's the truth: dealers are having a hard time selling. The '09's are already getting delivered, and there are literally dozens of '08's within 20 miles of me.

If all these poeple posting up getting $4k+ off MSRP are lying, then I have 2 replies.

First off, whether they are lying or not I will be buying a M3 for near invoice. When it actually happens is as yet unscene. Secondly, if someone has to get onto the interwebs and lying about the price they paid to feel good about it then I feel sorry for them. I see no real benefit to doing this and I wouldn't hesitate a second to barate and insult them via my e-text. I have little sympathy for liars, and even less for poeple that make bad decisions because of how they want to rationalise or feel good about themselves. (Sorry, pet peeve.)
[/rant]

But yeah, in the end. The only real effect on me is the percieved notion that I can get a deal, and in the end near invoice is the deal that I'm going to eventually make. So I win either way.

I don't know anything about the market in SoCal, but I got $4500 off MSRP on an ordered 09 DCT Coupe in Kentucky yesterday. I thought that my deal was going to be $750 over invoice but after the dealer fees etc. it ended up being $1230 over invoice.

Just curious. What are you trading in and how much did they give you for the trade?

No trade in. My current car is a crappy old SUV that's worth next to nothing. I'm going to keep it for when the roads are not so great.
