Question iDrive Firmware update by dealer? Has anyone done?

Last year I did the 2014 map update on my 09, all went well using disks sent by forum member Baccus. Over the course of using I have noticed some slight hesitations and calibration slightly off once every so often. Spoke with Baccus who said the firmware of the idrive is not keeping up?

Has anyone else experienced similar after doing map update on earlier model cars? And has anyone gotten firmware updated by dealer? If so whats cost to do so.

Thanks in advance

My SA quoted me $40to get the iDrive firmware to the latest. Do be aware that if there are dependencies, and they need to update the entire vehicle to the latest software, that could turn into an expensive visit ($4-500 if they don't goodwill some portion of it).

Interesting. What did you end up doing?

Interested to know running cost on this. Estimating 2-3 hours labor?

Updates can take up to 8 hours. Most of the time they will take 3-4. We usually do it in 1-2.

Dealers will charge anywhere from $125-500 from what we've seen. They may also tell you that if any modules fail during the update that this is not covered. This does happen from time to time but it's rare. They don't have all of the tools to recover failed updates and sometimes have to replace parts.

Sorry, just saw this. I bit the bullet and went in to get the iDrive updated; dealer said it would take 45-60 minutes. My car is a 2009, and had not had any modules updated previously. They tried several times, but it would always error out, and they determined they would need to bring the integration level of the car up to current in order to update it. Since I'd just purchased the vehicle from them, my SA asked the used car manager, and they goodwilled the programming. Ended up taking them about five hours for everything. (The SA estimated $5-600 if I had to pay for it.)

Thats an expensive fix. Have been calling around to get estimates.

If anyone knows dealers who have done this please chime in on experience

The dealer is totally clueless if they quoted you 45-60 for an iDrive software update. That's downright impossible.

Not doubting it. I'd like to hear what others have done.

Map update on my CIC via disk took about 60min. Yes granted updating full idrive software/firmware is a different scenario, but interested to hear other members chime in.

This is not a very common thing I see being done. Map upgrades yes - dealer sells and provides those. Do they also update idrive software if you get map update at dealer?

You can trust BPM Sport to do it. I've had tons of work done by them and if something happens they will stand by their work and they will fix it.

That's not in question - removing idrive unit from car will not be done. So needs to be local / IE: most likely dealer I can intrust. Anyone else have idrive updates done by dealer?

No, it's not standard procedure to touch software when the map is updated.

Thousands of cars have had software updated at the dealer.

The term "software" and "Firmware" have been thrown around loosely between those I've talked to on the subject. Maybe someone can confirm - is it the nav "Software" or "firmware" that receives an update, or are they the same thing.

DME "Software" is a whole different entity I know. I'm asking idrive specific.

Same thing in respect to the navi.
