The m3's engine wasn't designed for DCT, DCT was designed for the "yuppie" or female buyer (sorry to insult 99% of women here) who wants a fast car but dosent know how to drive one. Sure they can say it shifts faster but that's just it THE CAR shifts faster. My gf can probally drive a DCT car around a track and pull a decent lap time, shes also been in 3 accidents and has no clue how to drive....enthusiasts get the 6mt, people who just wanna look cool and go fast get the dct.....let the flogging begin, Im sure some anal-retentive *** will throw the book at me for this one

Why choose a manual when car was not designed for it?
So much for your theory about the M3 not being designed for a manual transmission. When talking about why the M5 will not be offered anymore with a manual transmission Albert Biermann, Head of M Engineering Click
And I quote: “We just can’t justify it anymore. It’s a no-cost option, but it’s been very difficult to do,” said Biermann. “Theoretically the stick is cheaper, but it’s very low volumes and we have to strengthen everything in the gearbox and find space for the shifter and another pedal, so it doesn’t work out cheaper.” “But these rules don’t apply to the bread and butter of the M division: the M3. Biermann said that the M3 “needs to have a stick shift.” To emphasize even more on the importance of the manual box for the M3, he added “It will always have a stick shift.” Thanks for playing |

I am not going to get sucked into this troll by someone who is very proud of his 2c and thinks he can convert the world.
Mate, for your information, for the first 12 months of the E92 M3 production there were no transmission option in the markets around the world. BMW delayed introducing the E92 to the north American market till 2008, and if I may recall the first customer cars were not delivered till March/April 2008. Manuals only. I am sure the early adopters of E92 M3 in North America can confirm this. I was not scheduled to get my car for something like 14-15 months following the introduction to the Australian market because I was late in placing the order. But because most of the early orders were for SMG/DCT/Auto, they couldn't fulfil these and I leapfrogged to 1st on the list and got my car. The post says a lot about the knowledge of this guy. I don't think he owns an /// car or for that matter even a BMW. A useless time waster. How come we haven't seen a single reply from this "Munit" following the start of this thread. He is a shit stirrer. Go and get a life. I wish the Admin will ban this guy or remove the thread for the sake of everyone's sanity and the integrity of this forum. Quote:

actually no. Formula 1 uses a single clutch seamless shift gearbox, which is nothing like the dct.

The car is very capable with a manual gearbox. Yes the dct might save a tenth of a second per lap, but unless you are trying to win the american le mans gt2 championship or something, why sacrifice the fun of driving and also get the more expensive, more complex, and less reliable dct just for 0.1s difference?
