I am struck by the GTR bug
I know this has been discussed before but I just placed an order for a 2013 DCT after selling my 2010 6mt. The problem is after watching YouTube videos of the 2013 GTR I am now tempted by the incredible performance of this budget supercar.
Please help me regain my sanity! |

Not sure why you would sell a 10 just to get a 13.

The GT-R's performance is incredible but you give up some luxury for it. Just know what you are getting yourself into if you decide to go with it. It isn't uncomfortable but "refined" is not the word to describe the GT-R's ride.

Full disclosure: I have neither driven nor ridden in a GT-R. That said, at every track day I've attended, I'm told by instructors and even some GT-R owners that while the car is stupid fast and fun for that reason, it also kind of just drives itself. Its electronics and AWD let you get away with huge driving mistakes, so if you're interested in refining your driving technique and actually learning, it's absolutely not the right car for you. I also think it's rather ridiculous that running with DSC completely off is grounds for voiding your warranty; it's almost as if the engineers view the driver as some sort of inconvenience or blemish on their example of automotive perfection. But if you want to go stupid fast and you're willing to sacrifice some luxury, comfort, (IMHO) aesthetic appeal, and extra cash, then by all means.
Just remember that the GT-R isn't quite as big a bargain as it appears, because the maintenance costs are on par with cars that cost much more -- DEFINITELY higher than an M3's maintenance costs even outside of Ultimate Service. Caveat emptor.

yea it will take a while... just stay away from them for a while and your good... took me at least 2 months...
although i would cancel that 13 order and order the new GTR.... Believed me you wont look back, unless your tired... you will look for that comfort mode ride that our cars have.

Get a GTR. I've driven one, I'm a believer. You've already experienced an M3, time to buy a space ship. Never had a car hurl me to the horizon so violently and fast.

I'd do it seeing as you like to change cars frequently. The GTR is an animal
In every aspect. You won't lose as much down the line as you would on a last model year M3. |

Enjoy the new M3 - Begin saving money for AFTER the purchase of the GTR, that is when you will need the bucks. If you plan to drive it hard, really hard to do justice to the car, then suggest new tires, new brakes, and general maintance be budgeted for each HPDE track sessions, and because of the performance of the car, a cage and restraint system is recommended. What I am saying, is let our pocket book be your guide.

It's not always the fastest that has the most fun!
edit: specially when the fastest only comes with semi-auto tranny, AWD and DSC to prevent you from going sideways and an engine note that is note particularly intoxicating! just get a supercharger!! Last edited by Alex07M3; 07-27-2012 at 07:58 PM.. |
