I have never had a problem with a dealership accepting a personal check. Never used certified funds for a car...just my own checkbook. Don't worry, the Stealers have the law on their side.

Then again, if your bank actually makes you pay for a certified check, you're most likely like me and lack the ability to buy a new M3 for cash

Thanks. I'll hold out.

I just saw another m3. Similar accessories along with19 inch wheels. it is not CPO, but there asking price was 49,800. The difference is that on the car fax report shows it was in an accident. I think for a 2008 M3 sedan with premium, tech, cold weather package, as well as CPO, somewhere around 50k is resonable. Without the CPO, you should get in for 47,48k. How much does the CPO typically cost/ increase the sticker price on a resale.

Meet em 'in the middle' at 51K w/ CPO... but CPO is only valuable to you... if you keep a car past 50K miles... if not... tell them $49K and no CPO.

If you're local and present a check from a local bank, are there on a weekday, and the dealership knows who you are and where to find you I can see that. I just don't want to see anyone travel to an out-of-state dealer on a Saturday with a personal check and expect to drive off in a new car.

The law is absolutely on the dealer's side, but all of the legal protection in the world doesn't mean much when you're talking about penniless scumbag scam artists and cars that head from the lot to chop shops. Or Mexico. Or chop shops in Mexico.

I agree with another poster that the CPO is up to you. Basically they are quoting you a price of 3k for the CPO. I believe CPO'ing a BMW can cost the dealership around 2000.00. They may be charging more for new tires (you should ask if that is the case, if they added new tires to the car).

CPO is not an item you can get a discount from the dealer since its a pass thru cost from the dealer to BMW NA (which records the car as a CPO'ed car).

Read this article to see how CPO works on a 335i (would be similar to the M3). http://www.caranddriver.com/features...w_335i-feature

Its really up to you if you want the CPO or not and if its worth it for you. If you can't push the 49k budget, then just go without it. You can always get the extended warranty on the car with BMW before the original warranty runs out.

It has 10k miles with 18inch wheels, ipod adapter, tech, premium and cold weather package. They are offering 52,600 with the CPO and 49,600 without. What should I do. My offer was 50,000 with the CPO but they are holding out

This brings up an interesting (if not slightly OT) question of CPO'ing now versus buying extended coverage at 50k - I'm sure this is covered other places, but for those of you that maybe have been in this position before what did you do? Did you go ahead and pay the 2-3k "fee" for CPO or did you just wait until the 50k was almost up and purchase extended coverage then?

Thanks.
