A Camry, because they both have four wheels and have paddles. Sounds legit to me.

The few and the proud.

I can understand why someone would flap those paddles if they are tracking the car, but as a daily driver...just leave it in automatic mode.

I have been a club 6MT purist since 1999 when I had a 1999 manual M3 that only had 5 gears.

Finally pulled the trigger on a DCT. can't wait. For me, finding a car with ZCP was more important than 6MT. However if we were talking about an E46 M3, then I would say finding a 6MT is infinitely more important than ZCP, as no one wants that shit SMG.

True on both points.

The E93 is slower than the E90 and E92, but vert owners don't care. Overall, the E9X M is slower than other competitors like the C63 AMG and RS5, so deal with that.

And yes, it does look cool with the stick shift and 6MT owners also don't have to worry that they can be carjacked by someone's grandmother....can't say the same for DCT.

Lol.

Why do want a DCT but don't want an SMG, if you've been a manual guy your whole life.

Serious question.

I can appreciate this. Top down and rowing through gears on an open road is a nice sensation.

It's all about the preferences of the driver. Drive what doesn't bore you! Erich happens to be a DCT for me on the street, but the opposite on a track.

That being said, I don't think most low-level thieves would be able to figure out the DCT as they're trying to figure out how to get it out of "Park"!

Sadly, it's true. Though I'm fighting it as hard as I can.

LOL. Well, it's kinda habit from always doing the shifting all those years. Plus it gives me something to do besides listen to the radio.

Because the SMG transmission was super mediocre. I had one for 9 months. And also I live in LA and have finally succumbed to the reality that a manual in traffic sucks. But I made it 8 years before succumbing

I had a 2006 SMG that was stolen, right in front of my eyes, while the engine was still running. The crackhead who stole it I am pretty sure had no idea how to drive it and probably drove it in 1st gear for hours until the cops chased him down. Car was total loss after he wrecked it. True story!

With the vert, the induction and exhaust soundtracks are all you need. My ears were ringing after I throttled onetime going through an underpass.

Oh I love the engine and throttle blip sounds, don't get me wrong, but my hands are still used to doing something to make shifts happen. When I drive my wife's X3, I'm now doing phantom paddle clicks too. Some of it also comes from my years on my simulator for iRacing.

In traffic, yes. On canyon runs it's KILLER. Fast, precise, crisp, aggressive, obeys every command.

Sounds like you never got to really drive it.

I'm a 6MT guy (started on S2000s, then had a 6MT E46M for 6 years) but I wanted to give DCT a try on the E90. I'd driven an E92 ZCP DCT quite a bit before purchasing, and felt the DCT was surprisingly fun and engaging for just a flick of a paddle. More importantly, I thought the extra gear, and the ability to always be in the right gear, added essential torque/pep to an engine/chassis that needed this extra little grunt. They really are a great setup together, and it's usually the 6MT owners that complain about the weight or lack of torque in this car.
That said, I do find myself missing my old shifter a bit. On the right roads, nothing can beat the enjoyment of properly set up 6MT. But for outright performance and for a variety of roads/conditions, DCT really is great a great all around box.
SMG is cool, but it's lack of refinement makes it far less versatile than DCT. DCT will kick ass at the track or in the canyon, and then let you commute in comfort. SMG is fine with WOT shifts, but it sucks around town. If I am going to suffer around town, I'll just go with a 6MT. I think thats the difference SMG -> DCT. That, and DCTs are looking to be more reliable than SMG.

1- I was driving my car the other day and was using the iDrive to select music on Spotify. My thoughts? If I didn't have iDrive, this would be a pain in the ass. Double humps don't looks dated at all, it's just something people say to make them feel better about not having it. Plus all the other items that are just easier to adjust with iDrive.

2- I like the sunroof. I ordered it like that. The market may dictate that sunroofs are worth less, but I wouldn't need to please the market, just one person, and they may want the sunroof, like I did.

3- The 6MT in these cars is fine. It's a little rubbery, but still acceptable. The DCT is faster, and I think it just depends on what you like. But if you're buying the car based on 0-60 times, then I hear Corvettes are nice.

4- speaking of speed, this M3 is as fast around a track as its peers. It just goes about it differently. See any Car and Driver article.

5- If you want ZCP, get it! These cars are to expensive at any price to settle.
