Removed rear muffler test
Hey guys,
Been thinking about unbolting the mufflers from the connector pipes after the resonators for awhile now. Got time to try it this weekend. Removal was very simple on a lift. 2 clamps, 4 nuts, and 4 hangers and out she goes. Impression: Its to loud for daily driving. The resonance is crazy loud since the pipes stop before the diff. Cant drive at 65 in 6st. as the resonance is to insane, but in 5th at 3500 rpm it goes away. But man it sound good. Maybe adding pipes to the back would make it better? Did a vid for you guys. Since everybody would have ask how it sounds. So here you go http://videos.streetfire.net/video/B...ler_634875.htm |

When I installed my AA, I did a start up and rev of the car without pipes, and it sounded bad ass......but it was damn loud. DCT sounds impressive as usual.

That is a MT not DCT guys... and it honestly sounds absolutely menacing... Be careful not to burn your back bumper like I did on my E46 M3 without knowing until the damage was done.

hahahahaha - sounds better than any of the aftermarket exhausts : ) Although, I'm sure the resonance will kill you and anyone in the car (as you point out). Sounds sick though - thanks for posting!
Maybe just some custom pipes with tiny mufflers or glasspacks is what you are looking for ; ) |

The pipes are pretty far ahead of the bumper, but still no need to chance it right!! I Installed the muffler back sunday night. Quote:
The sound is really nice and mean. Reducing the resonance would make it really nice. I was suprised how good it sounded. I plant to try some custom pipe when it get hotter up here. As ive fabup other exhaust systems with my friends in the past. Glad you guys enjoyed it. This is good for guys wanting to get another point of view of the sound of this motor. |

IMO DCT downshifts aren't nearly as impressive as 6MT. And this doesn't just go for the M3, noticed the same thing with the GTR. The best downshifts of all still come from the F1/SMG style transmissions, though. Downshift from a Ferrari Challenge Stradale or Scuderia sounds insane.
The car in the vid sounds incredible but I guess that's probably way too loud for daily driving.

I'd watch out for the diff. Without the connecting pipes and the muffler, the exhaust is blowing right onto the diff. Good thing you put things back together.

Why would there be any loss of power? If anything it would be more than anything possible with an aftermarket setup. Now if you fart around with the X pipe, you may get a low RPM torque drop.
