I wouldn't consider an IS-f. I agree with the point on its transmission being not at the same level as our M-DCT. I don't care for the styling differences involving the hood and tail pipes compared with my wife's IS 350. Also the present IS design is getting a little long in tooth.

I might consider the next gen IS-f though. I try to keep an open mind.

It does get around at low RPM just fine. I wish people would stop saying 400Nm is too little torque.

Well said.

I will start out by stating that I had an IS F for almost 4 years and 50K miles with zero issues....and have owned 3 BMW's during the same time frame.

Just flat out wrong. Comparing the fit and finish of a BMW to the IS F and calling it cheap is laughable.

Fanboi fail.

I'd agree that the tranny isn't as good as the DCT. There are multiple things that the F does equally well or better....especially the latest model.

Agree with your post except for the 8 gears. You never see the 8th...or even 7th gear for that matter...if you're doing any kind of performance driving. It is invaluable when cruising and gets the IS F gas mileage that the C63 or M3 can only dream of.

I used to get a comfortable 26-28 mpg on the highway and 18-20 mpg in the city when not driving like a jackass.

I made a good chunk of change back when I sold my IS F a couple months ago.

I test drove the IS-F at California Speedway track in Fontana, California...

The IS-F looks great on paper and it drives pretty good. I don't like it because of the styling, lack of wide body that the M3 has and the biggest reason - lack of manual transmission. I think the regular IS looks way better than the ISF.

If they had one that had better styling and a manual transmission, I'd seriously look into purchasing one. Lexus interior and overall reliability is great.

Yeah, I would not be apposed to switching from the M3 to the ISF. I like and respect the ISF. It may not be as fast on the track as the M3 but I don't track cars anyway. IMO, if for some reason I had to get rid of my M3 (like the wife is pressuring me to do cause she hates the 6MT), then I def would take the ISF over the C63. The C63 is a beast and I respect that but I just really don't like MBenz...... I'm trying to get the wife to hold on for a little so I can see what happens with the new M3 coming out. She said ok but has taken the keys to my new Raptor and is driving that.......

I also have been looking into getting an ISF in the near future.

I'm curious why, when these threads open up, it's always the C63 that people will compare to and suggest. No love for the CTS-V? If it weren't for the M that would probably be my second choice. I guess I'm a lone wolf.

Me personally liked Lexus, great quality and reliable cars, i've had 2 lexus previously and even i have an m and an audi now, i am planning to get another lexus in the near future. Not the ISF though since i already have the m, btw i think the new gen GS is very nice. You can't go wrong with IS-F, give it a shot.

Garage List
Top 5 in our direct segment that I would choose:

1.) M3 (by a slim margin)
2.) C63
3.) CTS-V (will there be an ATS-V?)
4.) IS-F
5.) RS5

I've driven them all extensively, with the exception of the RS5 since it just came out. I don't have anything bad to say about the IS-F to put it at 4. It just didn't float my boat to put it any higher...

EDIT: Watch as Volvo's upcoming S60 Polestar come in and put us all to shame lol

Having driven both cars extensively, 6mt M3 for the win. The IS-F sounded great and that was about it iirc.

Is there actually any benefit to having 8 gears in the IS-F?

Besides gas mileage?

So our cars put more torque to the wheels than a vette but you want a car with MORE torque.

I just wish guys would be accurate in their descriptions of what they want: what you are looking for a is a lazier engine that will FEEL faster and take less effort to drive fast.

Cheers,
e46e92
