The real way for BMW to "fix" this is to require you to actually use the key. Anyone know if there's a way to disable comfort access?
I'm only getting it because it's basically free once you get nav and two other things in the convenience package.
Yes, take the battery out of your fob.

Wow, it's a really good thing somebody decided to try and find a way to steal cars. At least once he discovered how he published his findings so that the whole world knows. As an added bonus he even tells us how we can do it ourselves, and how much it costs. If he were truly a great guy he could set up a site where anyone could order their very own long distance remote car starter kit, which would be great for those times we don't feel like carrying a key fob...or want to play a joke on a friend.

Seriously, why do people find it necessary to always broadcast this kind of stuff all over, is it so criminals can learn new ways of doing things? I don't need someone trying to discover ways folks can steal my stuff.

Had my X6 35d all extras mineral silver stolen from right outside my door last week. I had the keys, so god knows how they did it! Tracker was useless, as they couldnt get a signal from the car. I guess its long gone by now.

Tow truck?

Sorry that happened.

This article is an interesting concept.. In order to start a BMW they would have to replicate the key being inside the car as it has proximity sensors.

I think I'd lose my mind if someone stole my car after all of the TLC it gets.

That only disables Comfort Access for you. The Comfort Access on the car is still functional and looking for a compatible signal to open the doors and start the car.

The encouraging thing is that it takes some effort, skill, and intelligence to steal our cars. So that kind of reduces the potential population of thieves. I don't think M3s will ever be on top of the steal list.

So this doesn't worry me.

Is there any official statistics on this, i.e. how many Bimmers are being stolen each year? Should we be really worried or is it just a handful of cars we´re talking about here?

I suspect that most of us would never have to go through such a hi-tech theft, but how does one minimize the risk?

By any chance, has anyone that ordered an M3 attempted to have a Delete Comfort Access effected even when Comfort Access is part of a package?
