I have pretty bad hearing so I'm not really sure I "care" much, let alone giving up even more space inside the console (unless there is a clever way of fitting this underneath) but wonder if this would solve some of those issues.

Amazon has a pretty forgiving return policy, might be worth trying as a science project.
Having a quick read up it looks like the ones with a battery (like this) shouldn't be used on permanent charge - I'm looking for one that can run of USB safely, I'll report back if I find one.

It'll probably wear the battery down rather quickly, but might be cheap enough just to prove the concept or not. I don't see why it would be a problem since it wouldn't charge when the car is off.

This might do the trick, seems there are a ton of these:

Are you using a back up camera with this setup?

I spent all of last night searching Ebay/Amazon/Alibaba and it seems impossible to make heads or tails of it since half the reviews sound fake or might be 7 years old.

Trying to figure out what the best China camera to buy would be but I really don't want something that has horrible quality or doesn't fit.

I'm not no, maybe the same seller does one? You'd expect that to work if they do.

You can grab any of them, they're all okay quality as far as image goes.

Been running mine from AvinUSA for a year now, zero issues.

Ok, this sort of worked. It does improve the sound a bit, but when plugged in causes annoying noise. In the past I've seen this caused by an led and this comes on when charging, might see if I can disable it. Would still like to see if I can get this working through the harness.

Is it hissing or buzzing? Might be a lot of room for introducing noise/interference between the cables and the other stuff. Did you find a device that had a battery or just used USB power?

It's a buzzing sound, typical electrical interference noise.

The one I got has a built in battery, it works OK on battery only just not when plugged in to USB. I couldn't find a USB powered one for a decent price that didn't have a battery. To be fair a lot of these type on Amazon say not to use it plugged in.

Here's the one I got:

Gotcha - so when just on battery power, it seems to improve the sound? Or you still get interference? I found that other amp which just uses USB power, though I see it's out of stock already. Wonder if it's even worth trying.

I'm half deaf so honestly I don't even know why I'm bothering but it sounds like an interesting problem to solve.

Yes, it has a bass boost option too - I need to play around with it and the sound isn't perfect, but it is an improvement. Just wish I could get rid of the noise when it's plugged in.

I would like to add Apple CarPlay to my E92 M3, after a little research it seems like MMI Prime from Bimmer-Tech is what I've narrowed it down to.

It seems about 3x the cost of typical units in this thread but do you guys think it's worth it? I'm waiting for Black Friday to hopefully snag one at a better price.

I wouldn't say it's worth it, no.

I wouldn't have paid three times what I did for my unit, even though my early unit has the flat bass. From the sounds of things, later revisions have solved this. After a few early niggles (fixed with updates), the wireless CarPlay connection is solid, and I use it ever time I drive the car. I connect my phone to the BMW Bluetooth audio for music and the audio is fantastic.

I ordered the Carsara unit and hopefully it'll arrive in the next week. I'll test that against some of the complaints Vs the Kremersino and if it's solid it looks like identical kit to the Bimmertech at 1/3 the price.

Will update once I've got it hooked up.

Where in SoCal are you?

I've been running AvinUSA's headunit for over a year now and have had zero issues with it.

Hi everyone;

I have installed the andream carplay box in my CIC idrive unit but just when i connect it i get the electronics failure warning and the CIC system freezes and sometimes car does not even start.
I have checked my connections tried all connections scenarios and i still have the same issue;
anyone had a thing like that ???

There are a lot of harnesses to connect. If you disconnect the carplay box entirely does the car start fine? It sounds like you could have a short in one of the connections or harnesses. Is it possible that you cut one of the cable insulators while trying to pack everything back in?

I'd look over all the connectors and wiring harnesses of the whole thing, and see if there is any obvious damage, bent pins, etc. Maybe open the box itself and see if theres any signs of damage to the board? Cracked solder joints, etc.

Not sure if you just purchased it new but if you did it might be worth trying to get a refund or exchange.

I had the same problem, there was a problem with almost all the electronics in car including lights, electric windows and even odometer was dead. It turned out that I incorrectly plugged the harness, especially the part with the I drive knob. Please try different Configurations. I remember that I ended up without connecting anything to the knob and I did not connect one cable at all.
