Quick question: Delay in power shifting at redline?
Hey guys,
Is it normal for there to be a delay in power when shifting at redline? 6MT here and yesterday I was merging on the highway and redlined 1-2 shift. After shifting into second I went back on the throttle and there was about a half second delay before the car started accelerating again. I thought maybe it could be a Clutch delay valve but I did a quick search and someone said there's no CDV on these cars. Am I just trying to shift too fast or is this normal behavior? This only seems to happen when I'm giving 100% throttle and shifting at redline. Thanks.

Interesting, I didn't even think of that. I never drive with DSC OFF so that's very possible. Does the traction control light flash when it's intervening? I don't remember anything flashing.

This happens to me too. No lights showing and seems like theres a power cut but the engine keeps going. I have a DCT. Could be the TC or sparkplugs/injector needs to be changed. Dont know. I wanna know the issue too

Turn off TC and you'll know immediately. If TC is on it'll cut the power anytime the traction hints of slip.

Traction control is toxic on these cars, gives false sense of grip while not really saving you when in a pinch.
I would permanently turn it off.

Definitely sounds like traction control. Even in MDM mode my car will cut power on high RPM 1-2 shifts. As long as the road is dry, I usually drive with DSC off once the car is warmed up.

Euro MDM is much less invasive and worth the coding and if needed new/used steering wheel switch gear with szl module. I rarely turn mine off; the stock MDM intervened way too much. Euro MDM will let you leave a little rubber or slide a little. More is fun, but slower.

OP, mine is a 6MT as well, try to see if you can duplicate it with your TC "turn on" and see if it still exist. Then repeat it with your TC "turn off". It happened to me before when I try doing that with "TC ON" during my first year of ownership on early morning roads with moist surface. Gluck

Thank you guys for the response. I will try with TC off someday but right now I don't feel comfortable as I'm still on summers and it's cold here in NY. Just glad it's not something wrong with the car.

Hoping you found what your issue was. I will also need to test with traction control off. |

Definitely TCS getting in the way, power shifting 1-2 gets the backend excitable, but controllable. I've had TCS on before trying to drive like an a-hole and it cuts power.

Since my 6MT is a Euro-version I've never experienced this, atleast not in connection to a gear shift. Of course the TC engages sometimes but when in MDM-mode you don't get that feeling of loosing power, just traction.

I don't mean to thread-jack, but mine almost seems like the clutch is slipping, but I don't think it actually is. With gear engaged (usually only in 3rd or 4th gear), and at high RPM's (~5k) if I let off the throttle and then WOT, I get slight delay in power, followed by a slight "thump" on the drivetrain and then the car jolts forward. No clutch smell. Doesn't do it any other time, even going from low RPM to redline. TC disabled.
It's almost like the driveshaft has a lot of play, or the clutches in the diff are slipping(?). I do have the "clink" sound coming from the DS when reversing or in 1st gear, so maybe it's that(?) |

Could it be the clutch delay valve?

1) Even if there was one, no, not what he described.
2) I don't believe that the M3 gets one.
