Too loud fixed

[IMG][/IMG]
Running ipe f1 full system for one week, way too loud for my taste, you cannot hear an ambulance in front of my e92. And the smell is so annoying. Yesterday, I Bring it back to my mech guy putting the oem cat back by cutting the ipe front pipe. Problem fixed!

Another option would have been to sell the IPE xpipe and install test pipes on the OEM xpipe...

wouldn't the smell issue be the same? and probably just as loud? I have an FI (frequency intelligent) exhaust which is similar to ipe in terms of loudness. the smell is something I'm concerned about too. But I"m thinking of either buy a set of HFC and well into my current set up or sell the catless xpipe and buy an xpipe with hfc on it. OP, is the car significantly less loud? did it completely change the sound of the ipe? Thanks.

I intend to run test pipes soon so i will let you know how the smell is with only the oem secondary cats in place

OP's method would have less smell and be quieter vs test pipes. Primary cats should be 400 cel vs 200 cel in the secondary. So primary cats will filter out more of the smell.

I would go with a replacement x-pipe, I've seen the IPE rob some power.

ok... are. you saying get a new x-pipe with hfc (to replace the primaries) ? Any recommendations? btw my full set up is Frequency Intelligent w catless xpipe (another valved option). I like the sound but it's definitely too particularly over 4k rpm but it's valved so who cares. but the smell is more what is bothering me (and I have a child in the back at times). also... what about the test pipe option. if I just buy a set of cheap test pipe and weld in into my catless xpipe, would that resolve smell issue and still sound good?

the oem cat is 400 cel which has no smell. HFC still has some smell

Here is an idea: what about doing what OP did but instead of welding the primaries back in, weld the secondary cats in (it's 200 cel Like most HFC). May be even put it where the primaries would be (upfront). Would that be something that works?

Not many companies still make catted x-pipes that I know off. ESS used to make one but now the only one I know of is the AFE x-pipe. Ideally the AFE xpipe and a test pipe setup withe the secondary cats would be pretty close to the same. High flow cats are normally 200 cel which is the same as the secondaries.

WOW. Way to ruin a very expensive exhaust! You would have been better off just reinstalling the factory Xpipe with a MS GT2 axleback and selling your IPE. I just don't get it.

Also, way to lose a decent 20whp.......

Wow. Why not just buy test pipes for $250 and leave the secondary cats in place.

I'd have traded you my test pipes plus $500 for that x pipe
