Production Date Delayed 6 weeks... few questions

I just spoke to my sales rep, who said I went from a week 10 build to a week 16 build date. He is stating that the demand for the M-DCT and 19" wheels are delaying everything.

Now, I heard the 19's would cause a delay, but I didn't realize that the M-DCT was NOT going to push back production on the coupes?

I'm going to talk to BMW NA and ask what the scoop is, but I figured I'd consult you guys as well.

Thanks in advance,

Patrick

Sorry to hear this. I think my build date slipped from February into March because of the 19"ers.

If I had to, I could live w/o the 19s. As soon as I get it home I will be mounting my BBS RS-GTs, so my 18's will be gathering dust in the basement or will be sold shortly thereafter. I was wondering if there have been any more rumblings about M-DCT delaying ***coupes***. As I understood it, it was only the sedans that were suffering from M-DCT production delays.

Thanks!

I've considered getting/selling the 18"ers and buying lightweight 19" BBS wheels instead. Do you have any idea how much the 18" wheels and tires might sell for in the US? Would they fit the 335 or the E46 M3?

Well, the initial information on M-DCT was that there would be LIMITED availability from March through May, with supply catching up about June.

This matches up with what BMW NA just told me. Basically, if you want your car built in March AFTER the first production week in March (weeks 10-12, mine originally being week 10), you can not select the 19" wheels OR the M-DCT transmission. They are at capacity for the month after the first production week. Now I get bumped back to a late May or early June delivery.

Great - a longer wait!

You would think... oh, I don't know... that BMW would have enough brain cells to poll people prior to production to estimate demand for 19" wheels and M-DCT.

PS - This could potentially reverse my decision on ordering the car entirely.

In sales, the way that my compensation and incentives line up against the calendar year, I could be in pre-owned 997 GT3 range by June. Argh.

Wow. I think I could wait a few months longer for that! If it could be had in the US without a moonroof, I would be saving for one of those too.

Ya. My dealer just emailed me. I've gone from week 11 to mid April now due to the 19" wheel fiasco.

This sucks. Now I'm annoyed !!! ;-)

so if you either ordered M-DCT OR 19 inch wheels, your order will be delayed? Does this matter when your order went through or is it for ALL orders?

I just called BMW NA, and my build week is still the same, no delays no push backs. Week 11.

I don't think it is all orders. Dave's order went 112 and as of yesterday, I was still on track for my week 10 build. I guess I better check again tomorrow though...

Oh yes, I have DCT and 19s on order

It says on their machine that the order will not go through "if one or both of these options is selected":

- 19"
- M-DCT

My assumption is that if EITHER one is selected, the order is bumped. The money question, Fif, is did you order M-DCT?

If you did, I'm going to call back and change it to 18's so I don't have to wait another month and a half.

Thanks!

That is really odd, i wonder how BMW managed the orders, it seems like random filing, if you got lucky then you get your car, if not then you have to wait. I though they would be more organized as in whoever got their orders in first should have first dibs, seems like thats not the case...

Same here. I'm wondering if it's the 19s. Decisions decisions.

I am leaning toward cancelling the 19's and seeing if I go 112 within a few days. If not I will add the 19s back in a few weeks.

Good idea? Bad idea?

I say do it, doesnt hurt to try...when did your order go through?

I asked the lady to double check my order twice and she said it was locked in for week 11.

I placed the order on the 31st at about 2:00pm EST. The order was status 111 by 9:00am the next morning.

Now, my sales rep accidentally put it in as a Sedan, and then had to change it to a coupe - this changed my order #. Would this affect the build date? Did they give away my spot???

If that is the case, he can fuck himself and I'm going GT3 or 360 Modena mid-Summer.

Fucking bastards.

Pat, if your order went through this week then that might explain the delay.

So because my sales person is a retard and put it in as a Sedan, I'm now delayed another 6 weeks?

Oh, this is not going to be good for him.

Hmm same as me, i got my order placed 1/31 roughly 3pm...since you got a new production # it might have affected the build date...

How long did it take him to fix it? Maybe 1/31 was the last day for M-DCT orders, and since your sales guy messed it up you got pushed back?

Well, if he cancelled the order for the Sedan and re-entered it 4 business days later for a Coupe, how many dozens (or hundreds) of other M3s were ordered in between? This is my point. His incompetance to select between Sedan and Coupe caused my delay.
