Replace Illuminated Shiftknob
When I purchased my E92, it came with the illuminated shift knob (is this stock?). The M3 is great car, but it honestly feels like I am shifting with a rubber chicken.
I purchased a Storm Motorwerks V1 shift knob and need to install it. It looks like the shift boot and illuminated knob are one piece. Do I need to order a new shift boot with an opening to install a traditional knob? If so, what is the best place to purchase it? |

The stock knob boot is indeed one piece. If you already bought a shift knob I might be able to help you out. I actually have a black shift boot that you can mate to your existing base ring and use with your new shift knob. Shoot me a PM if interested. I see you are in NY as well, so maybe this could be a local deal for you.

I ordered the Race German boot and ring from Turner Motorsport, but it doesn't actually fit the E92 M3 so I've returned it. Anyone know where to get the leather and ring combo that fits this vehicle?

There is a company called Redline goods that makes shift boots for a lot of different models. I used them a lot with my older E Series Models. Maybe they can help.

You can remove the ring from your stock shifter and mate it to a new shift boot.

Yeah, but TM specifically says it's compatible with the M3 which is some false advertising.
Plus, I reached out to RaceGerman and he doesn't even make them with the M3 ring. I actually up not returning it and mailing it off to this guy to fit it onto the OEM ring. |
