Ms Stage Ii Intake Issues/problem

whatsup guys, I originally had the MS drop in filter and I decided to swap it out for the MS Stage II intake......I already have RPI scoops so I left those in instead of using the MS ones, and I already have the Euro/USMY10 filter adapter in so I didnt bother changing the adapter for the one that came with the stage II kit since they seem to be exactly the same. Installed the kit and love it, and really feel like the car pulls alot harder at every RPM from this simple mod (didnt believe i would feel it but i do). Only thing is when I drive the chargepipe seems to always blow off and I cannot get it to stay on under any circumstances (This is the 5th time im readjusting and tightening it). Any recommendations??? Here is a before picture with the chargepipe on (after retightening), and the second picture is what happens after I beat the shit out of the car and then look under the hood:

AFTER

any help is appreciated thanks

thats sucks, maybe you can add some hot melt glue where the hose and the elbow meets and clamp them together?

Check with MS - good product and company. They probably have a fix recommendation.

Update: loosening the clamps seemed to fix the problem, seems like they were on way too tight and it would pop out and not be able to slide back into place...seems like a looser fit is better

You need to rotate the clamps to that the screw is facing up at you and is on the side closest to the intake plenum. Basically the same way the OEM clamps are oriented. That would be my guess since I have them in that location and have had no issues. It also seems logical that you would want to have the tightening mechanism, eg the screw, on the smaller surgace on the side, so that it has more space to grip. I would give that a shot and see.

Good luck!

I had the same problem last year.
I ordered a kit when it just came out.
Had it on my car for only 1 or 2 weeks.
It keeped popping off the plenum, and to keep the filter holding, or should i say not slipping off, when tight, you get a open gap.

Plus the pvc tap is glued, and mine broke off, during installation. So i had to re-glue it.

I ended up sending it back to EAS.( great customer service EAS)
To bad they MS didnt revise the clamping design, as the system was cool, just not stong on the clamp locations.

FYI,
The MS sytem has a much better sound then the AFE systems.
The AFE system has a perfect mouthing system, but lacks the sound.

Oh and with the pipe disconnected, man oh man was the motor sounding crazy good.
That's what made me pop the hood, and i noticed it was popping off.

I am wondering if the extra power and pull you noticed was simply because you had the thing popped off and a direct path for air into the intake manifold without going through the air filter or the intake at all. Not good for the engine at all but may be good for a few hp felt!

How would you say the sound improved? Is it a big noticable difference or can you describe the change? WIth the thing connected obviously!

Edman951 has the hose clamps positioned properly in his images - realign the pieces, position the clamps, re-tighten and all should be well.

Is that your only recommendation fix? To realign the clamps and tighten? I am going to do so now, but this hasn't worked for me. Any other recommendations? It's getting pretty annoying at this point, because I've had me and two buddies both take the entire system apart and reposition it, and it still won't stay. In regards to the clamps, is less tightening better than more? Or should I have them clamped down as hard as possible.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one having this problem. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Shouldn't have to have it super tight since it's not pressurized. Just nice and snug would be my suggestion.

The couplers can squeeze off with overtightening. Snug is all you should need, also make sure the coupler mating surfaces are clean of any oils or other contaminants.

Position the worm clamps 90 degree from your original pics (so they are on the edge), realign and tighten. Overtighten and you take a chance of collapsing the intake tract.

So I dissassembled the entire intake assembly, and re installed. Seems to have a way better fit now (something wasnt sitting right). Took it for a test drive, beat the shit out of it for 10 minutes, came back and the chargepipe moved ever so slightly (1/2 inch) off in the same exact spot (wasnt drastic at all, just barely). So what I did was readjust the rubber grommet, I pulled it off the intake plenum another couple centimeters, and favored the side where the rubber meets the chargepipe so there is less of a chance of it pulling off. Seems to have fixed the problem for now; while I was at it I also did a little coloring on the MS Logo:

Seems like a lot of hassle to deal with checking this thing every time you drive it. I would just take it off.

Maybe that's why the OEM unit has an accordian-link - to accomodate the motion/flex between the engine and air box?

Getting it installed perfectly is a pain IMHO. Once I did though, it has not loosened at all. The rubber couplings allow enough play, but getting everything aligned is a chore. The video on youtube helps a lot.

Seriously though how can this be a reputable company if they cannot figure out how to make a rubber coupling fit with an air intake! This is super old technology and air intakes have been around forever. Its one thing for the design to be good/bad but any company should be able to atleast have the thing STAY ON the stupid tube. I would not trust a company that cannot even make the thing stay on properly. Clearly they do not understand they need to build in some movement into the piece a la dinan or OEM.

It does have movement built into it. I can get a lot of OEM intakes to slip off too if I put the clamps in certain positions or don't have the elbows in the proper position. I had to adjust mine multiple times until I was confident that it was in the perfect position. If you do things out of order, you will put stress on the wrong places. If people follow the youtube video, they should be fine.
