Updated 10/23/18

ADDED High Flow Cats... These are 200cpi made by Vibrant Performance.

Impression:
The HFC's didn't change the tone much under 3500rpms, but it adds a little bit of rasp in the upper revs. At first, I wasn't too thrilled by adding rasp but after a day of driving, I've really come to like it. It adds an extra bit of character to the sound, really screams at WOT. Still no drone anywhere, the car feels much livelier and throttle response seems improved. Best of all? NO SMELL! I drove around for about 30 minutes, came in the house and had my wife do a sniff test on my clothes. Passed!

Some light revving and slow take off.

That sounds similar to the HFC AFE/MPE combo on my car, always hard to tell in vids, but the tone generally sounds familiar particularly revving

Still sounds good.

I like this set up, you can swap back and forth between the primary and HFC when ever you want to...

Love it. MPE is great, do wish mine was louder. The stock primary cat really takes away the rasp. Second vid is good too but less refined.

I think HFC's with a quad resonated X-pipe could be the sweet spot.

Correct, using the stubbies will keep your factory primary cat.

The benefit is no check engine light and not needing a tune. Also no smell.

I didn't go with the catted version was that AA uses 100 cell cats so the smell will be there, just not as strong, in my line of work I cannot have my clothes smelling like I just cut the lawn when I arrive to work. I've had 100 cell cats before, while it did cut down the smell, my clothes would always smell like unburnt fuel after a drive. With the stock primary cats, there is no smell.

The car has zero drone, as in when cruising on the freeway you cannot hear the exhaust with the windows up.

Can you modify the HFC version to fit the stubbies or do you need to buy the catless x-pipe with connecting pipes?

What do you think, does the OEM cats sound better? I think the added rasp from HFCs doesn't sound as classy as the OEM cats.

Cold start idle, hell no. Otherwise, yes it's audible but not loud, similar volume to flap open 335i

If the AC or alternator puts any load on the engine it's a much bigger change in volume than stock, also, at idle

I have the V2 MPE as well and I cannot for the life of me, figure out what to do next. I'm stuck between something like AA test pipes (keeping the secondaries and resonators) or this X pipe setup with the stock primaries.

I've heard MPE with test pipes, sounds like crap in person...
After hearing OP's videos all over again, OEM primary cat sounds the best paired with the MPE. It isn't raspy like it has a bad cough.

It doesn't hurt to try test pipes, and it's the least expensive option too. I had it with my MPE and loved it. No drone and it screamed like no other setup on this platform. The high pitch scream was very unique and it howled in the midrange. I only sold it to go with something even louder with more bassy tones.

I currently have Supersprint Race (not F1). Gave me exactly the sound I want, much more rumble down low and zero-minimal drone (more of a howl than a deep resonance) when the pipes get very hot after a good flogging

What do you guys think about having an exhaust shop custom fabricate a "straight pipe" from the primaries back to the rear section. Seems like it would accomplish the same thing (minus the resonators included with this x-pipe setup) and probably for a lot less money. No disrespect to the OP who took the time to pioneer this great sounding setup. Just thinking of all the options at this point.

I've got the MPE exhaust coming and was going to get the AA x-pipe with stubbies like OP did originally but my shop is telling me the x-pipe and stubbies will be pointless if i keep the OEM cats because the noise won't change at all. Do they know what they're talking about or are they out to lunch?

the sound change will be subtle.

The biggest negative to keeping primary cats is the HP they rob you... Go catless or get something with 2, 200 cell HFC and be happy!

I think the best thing about this exhaust is that it is OEM, so you can shut complainers up when they say your car is too loud.

His car is quiet. I don't really hear anything. Not sure where you're getting any loudness from.

I've owned your exact exhaust set up before, and even with a catless, no resonator x pipe and it's not loud. .... So no I wouldn't be surprised.

My race Xpipe with the Borla ATAK.... is loud. Very loud.
