Plenum / trumpets - cleaning?

Hi guys,

our intake trumpets are lovely, just the feeling to have them do their thing under the plenum yeah. Taking a look the other day shows they (obviously) collect dust with time. Anyone who clean the inside while the plenum off, like rinsing it with water and let dry, no?

its not as simple as washing it with water because there is a very thin layer of oil keeping that dust there. the oil is blowby captured and recirculated by the emissions system. you can sort of see in the foreground of the pic that it looks a little moist. run your finger over it and you'll see what i'm talking about.
so, you'll have a hard time getting all of it, and i'd even say you would run the risk of causing it to clump up in some crevice where it could become dislodged and might actually cause an issue. its a long shot, but you get what i'm saying.

Yep see what you mean, would probably take more than water only. Thought I ask the folks as we are a few OCDs on the board...

I do it every time I flush the coolant (don't know why), every year. I use a mild degreaser applied with an air blow gun, let it sit for a few and rinse it well. Air blow dry it, rest it.
I do it, as you mentioned, because we are OCDs.

Cheers mate. Interesting you remove plenum to flush the coolant, mind me asking why?

I just don't know why mate. I just feel like I have to remove "the monster" when doing the flush. I guess it is related to the fact that the under trays are out (I remove the engine block drain plugs as well) and I have all that space around to check stuff out.

Yeah, why not if you have space and a cozy garage, sounds nice! So bet you have a clean and tidy V are also. Noticed to be quite dirty on mine when I replaced throttle actuators, no time and strenght to clean up though....

I make the cleaning process quite easy; I spray a mild degreaser, give it a few and rinse with water. Done. Not a single issue with electrical contacts/plugs, rust or whatever in 8 years (she will be 8 on 04/21/2020).

Will take a few sometime soon. I have to do some work in the motor that requires the monster to be removed.
