50k seems awefully low for an 08. Don't get me wrong, if it wasn't for people commuting in a daily driver and not their M3, I wouldn't have picked mine up ('08) last month with only 17.5k on the clock. (Currently just over 20k)
I don't get it. It's a car, drive it. Drive the hell out of it. And 50k isn't high for any modern car anyway. That's practically the first oil change on these things (kidding... sorta) I'm thinking 100k is more in the ballpark to get an accurate estimation of problematic things getting replaced. |

January 2008 build (one of the launch vehicles). Original owner. Currently at 34k miles. Only two warranty repairs:
1) iDrive knob popped off 2) Fuel pump regulator failure My warranty expires June 30th. My current plan is to take my chances without a warranty.

The only other repairs ive had aside from maintenance are trim items like the i-drive knob, material peeling on the steering wheel and passenger door handle. |

11/2008 build MY09 E90.
Bought the car with 31K miles. Have 54K currently. Issues: Replaced the LED tail lights after a strip of the LEDs went out. Steering sensor coincidently went bad driving away from the dealership after an alignment. Some of the interior trim was replaced due to peeling. This all happened and was covered under warranty. Can't think of anything else wrong with it. Drives like a champ. Been running a meth kit and piggyback ECU for about 4k miles now. No issues. Driving style: Spirited. No track. Driven mostly in FL (93 OCT), DC area (93 OCT), and Texas (91 OCT, 4000 ft).

Has anyone looked into how much extended warranty will run on the 08's? Im looking at buying an 08 with 5700 miles on it tomorrow. Warranty is up in 2 months. Not sure what to do.

50K is pretty much normal for an '08. That's actually close to the average amount of mileage driven in a year for a regular car in the USA, which is 12k/year.
A person with a '08 m3 with 50K miles on the clock is basically driving 12.5K/year. That is not bad if you ask me. Low mileage '08 M3's are those with less than 40K miles on the clock. Their owners are basically driving less than 10K/year.

good lord thats low... how much do they want for it? i'd try to get it CPO'd if possible. An extended warranty would be around $5K. I think it costs the dealerships around $3k to cpo but i doubt they'd let u just bring your car in and have them certify it unless you know somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody

I have another thread on it in this forum just recently. The owner had it as a lease and spent the last 2 years in the hospital before he passed last month. His family is buying the lease out and selling it for $42k, i imagine just to make a quick buck instead of turning it in. Its been in a minor fender bender with a shopping cart and once with a cop car but both under 5mph collisions. Im having the dealer run a full PPI on it tomorrow just to be sure. Ill have to ask them about CPO and if not, see if they can cut me a deal for extended warranty. |

replaced all of the ignition coils, I had problems whit 6 of them in different periods and the last time they replaced the faulty one and the two remaining. (this problems came after about 30000 miles replaced seat belt helpers twice Replace the steringwheel plastic twice, (the plastic/rubber layer gets scratched very easy and I m going to get it replaced for the third time soon... Replaced the Idrive joystick after the inner ring just broke one morning going to work, you could just lift the thing right up And this week I had to replace the steering column after the CAS unit was malfunctioned . Almost forgot, I needed to get a new rubber seal for the exhaust system just above one of the primary cat and then of course the usual stuff new brake pads once a year etc. I don't drive the car on track but I have driven it pretty hard all this years plus I use the car all year around and it gets pretty cold in Sweden in the winters whit allot of snow and stuff and that takes its toll on the car. I think the ignition coils going to be a frequent problem here when many of the cars reach 50000 miles or more. Last edited by paicapo; 04-26-2012 at 04:13 PM.. |

Hi
Mine is up to 45000 km, hard but fair use incl 10+ track days, where the temp regularly goes up to 1/2 way between half and 3/4. Sustained periods between 6500-8000 rpm. The car loves it, brakes would be the area which goes.... (much more than big luxury barges) Maintenance: Replaced front tires once, backs twice, 1 litre of oil outside regular services, and the socket for my ipod broke. Under BMW warranty - and I specifically told them I was going to do track days, if you can buy an extended warranty I would 100% do that. Cheers stu Last edited by kiwistu; 04-26-2012 at 04:17 PM.. |

38k on 12/07 build.
Second owner, ive had it since 19k. 6 track days and mostly spirited driving, it's not my daily No problems yet, only been to the dealer for scheduled maintenance. Since ive seen so many people talking about the peeling steering wheel, im going to see if I can get mine fixed before the warranty is up in June. Planning on taking my chances without extended warranty. |

- Who paid for this car? You or your family that apparently doesn't want you to drive it? - It's a priceless painting, hide it in the garage... wait... what? It's a what? A CAR?! - You don't spend $XXX on a car to NOT drive it! I got rid of my "fun" car and my "daily driver" for my M. I'm driving it thank you very much I'll tell you what, go buy your wife a new pair of expensive shoes that she's had her eye on and tell her she can have them but not wear them |

High mileage is actually considered over 75,000 miles.
