2008 to 2010 Lci Conversion(E90 M3)
Well, I just bought a used 2010 AW trunk lid and am begining to assemble all the parts necessary to do this conversion. I already ordered the inner lights from Tischer and am looking around for the best price for the amber LED (EU)outers. This conversion will vary depending on your production date so please keep this in mind when using my experiences in eliminating and error codes I might encounter. What worked on my car may or may not work on your 08. There, that is my disclaimer! My production is 3/08, BTW.
Step:1 Acquire a Lci trunk lid. I wanted an OEM so when one became available I jumped on it. It's almost garanteed to have a perfect fitment for obvious reasons. It's also a fraction of the cost of the CF options out there, though those CF options do look nice if that is the look you are going for. I just felt like this was an easy/cheap way to go from a 2008 to a 2010 without having to trade my car in. Stay tuned for Step 2 through Step___!

I hope the E92 is just a straight light swap and no trunk replacement needed.

+1, according to the camo'd spy photos floating around it appears it is just a light mod.

Looking at the design of the E92, you cant really put a different tailamp on the decklid that doesnt look stupid without changing the outer lamp. Bmw sure as hell isnt going to change the quarter panels.

My understanding is that any M3 before 06/2008 production might need to have the dealer reflash the car with the retrofit. I will let you know when I get everything hooked up.

Karbonwerke has a swap kit, just FYI... It's a plug and play harness. The brake lights work but I hear the reverse lights require some programming. But at least no cutting and splicing is needed.

Outstanding, this is the first thing I would have done as well if I had a E90 M3. Well done. Lets hope the conversion in the E92/93 is similarly simple or perhaps even just a change in light and your done.

I looked into it. I usually consult the SA/mechanics at my dealership before I mess with any wiring. They told me DON'T use resistors! There is a 'light retrofit' menu in the computer they can reflash with straight OEM lights. The inner lights apparently just require swaping the order of the wires for the reverse lights to function. Like I said, I will post more info when I get to that point. This is the reason I went through so much trouble with my lighted ZHP project in keeping all the stock wiring stock. I just don't want to be tapping/altering any of the stock wiring.

UPDATE:
So I toy'd with the idea of going with a CF trunk and selling the stock lid I aquired but just didn't feel like spending over 2k. So I had the trunk repsprayed to match the rest of my car. I installed the trunk portion lights. After just pluging them in the lights, I got a light fault in the dash. After some trial and error, I got rid of of all the faults and the lights (including the rear fogs) are functioning properly now. I have included the correct wiring for the Rt side that worked for my car (see discalimer in post#1). Also, a picture with the Lci conversion with the non-led lights as I am still waiting for those to come in.

That conversion looks very nice! What would you estimate the cost to be of this conversion if I:
Bought the trunklid, LCI lights, spoiler and emblems new from BMW, painted and installed with re-flash? This is def not a DIY project for me! Matt

I got the LCI outer lights a couple of days ago but one arrived damaged. Thanks to the great customer service from Tischer, a new one is being sent 2day air with prepaid return for the damaged light. So by this weekend I will have the outer lights on.
Yeah, I know I got the US lights instead of the EU spec. I debated long and hard and thats why I ordered the inner and outer lights seperately, but I think I think I still prefer the red(US) blinkers over the yellow(EU).

That's great that Tischer took care of you! This is a really cool conversion, the LCI tails look very nice.

while they file a claim you are out of a part for X months until they are able to get paid. Also, while you wait, they expect you to buy a replacement part from them. When they get paid by the shipping carrier that is when they will reimbursed you. So because Tischer or the shipping carrier messed up, you have to spend TWICE as much money and waste twice the amount of time. ^^^retarded huh? |
