Hello everyone! I've been lingering on this forum for 4 or so years as I bought an e92 335i back in 2016. Absolutely love the car and still smile when I drive it, but my local mechanic had a pretty rough 2008 e90 M3 he bought from an auction. It had 144k on the clock and he only wanted 13k for it...
I took it for a few days and could not believe how much more comfortable it was compared to my 335i and the improved driving experience even with 50k more miles than my car. Long story short...I was hooked and knew it was time to buy a M3. I thought long and hard and decided to pass on my mechanics car because I couldn't see myself being happy with that car in a few months considering it's condition. It wasn't that bad, but considering not knowing about RB's, 4 previous owners, etc. I just couldn't do it. Fast forward a week later I found another 08 e90 in Jerez black 6MT and my favorite red interior with 110k miles in St. Louis (I'm from Greencastle, IN if anyone is familiar with Putnam Park Road Course). I was slightly skeptical because the description said brand new motor. I was weary, but decided to go take a look. When I was inspecting the car and saw the receipts for the motor—it turns out it was warrantied and a brand new block all the way to the spark plugs was shipped from Germany to replace! When I popped the hood and looked at the receipts I couldn't believe a warranty covered a 32k job... I called my local BMW dealership to run the VIN and indeed the work was done by a BMW dealership and everything checked-out. The car came with 3 full sets of OEM wheels and tires, pulley, and axle back exhaust. A few flaws: power button is missing on console, the driver side cup holder won't eject, and the PPF was burned in a few places from what looks to be buffing. But overall, stunning vehicle and I couldn't be more excited. Plans for the vehicle: I'm not sure if the new motor has the updated bearings or not (was replaced March 2018), but plan to do an oil analysis in the first oil change as the motor has 10k miles on it now. If it's the updated bearings nothing will show correct? I also plan to do the Alpine, test pipes, and a full paint correction. ***looking for used test pipes if anyone has them! Here are a few pictures of the vehicle! |

Welcome. The cup holder is attached by two screws takes 5min to replace and the power button module just plugs in under the console trim takes 10min. And no 2011+ won’t show so depends on the built date of the new engine

Thank you for the response and compliment! Unfortunately, I'm wanting to go with test pipes to save some change!

Congrats man. A new motor means it must have thrown a rod or main bearing. Since you have the receipts from a dealership, its unlikely the rod bearings are not stock. Id suggest you replace that out asap with some BE extra clearance bearings and then drive without worry. Have fun!

Welcome! I did the same as you, E92 335 to E90 M3!
The M3 is much more comfortable and handles way better than the 335.

It would be cool to know how an 08 M3 recently got a new S65 from BMW under warranty. Do you have any info on this OP?

Congrats. I went from an E92 335i to an M3 as well. Completely different car (in a good way). I kind of missed the N54 though so I bought another one just for fun. Lol.
