M3 addiction .. please someone convice me to sell it! :)
Hey guys,
I own a beautiful 6-speed manual LaMans Blue E90 M3 with less than 35k miles on it. Unfortunately, here in Canada the winters are really long and nasty with all kind of crap that comes with it. Although, the M3 seems to be quite driveable with a good set of winters, I did experience situations where ice bumps and holes would almost rip the bottom of my car. In other words, I don't have a choice but to drive my M3 only about 6 months a year, which encouraged me to put the car for sale. It's not that I am in a financial trouble or something like that, but it pisses me off having two vehicles, each driving only 6 months a year. As I am waiting for a lucky bastard to steal this beauty from me , I am trying to find reasons that will outweigh my rational part of brain and make me keep the car which I really love! I even got myself a X3 M40i a couple of months ago, hoping that it will be a decent replacement for M3, but the more I drive it the more I want to keep my M3. Yes, the M40i is nice and fast, but doesn't have the feel of the old M3 which puts a smile on my face every time I got into. Although I don't track my M3, and don't explore its' full potential, the feel and feedback that I get from that car is comparable to none. I even drove a new M3 but again was not impressed. Is this M3 E90 addiction curable, or I am lost forever? I guess the new M40i didn't help ... Anybody else in a similar situation? Here are a couple of picture of my baby .. Cheers, D. If you live somewhere with terrible winters you 'need' a second car, not because an M3 can't deal with ice and snow but because you won't want it to.
That said, the only replacement to an M3 is more M3s. I have 3 M3s right now (E90, E92, F80) and store them all during winter. Then in winter I use the X5 and the Mini. I've driven the X3 m4.0i and it's fantastic, but still nothing to do with an M3. My X5 has modified suspension and power and still, the driving experience saps away my life force. The more I drive it the worse I feel, to the point I bought the MCS just to not have to drive the X5 all winter. I would have bought a manual 2015 Mini for the daily driving duties in winter and kept the M3 for summer. PS: I have family in Canada and visit quite often. I've driven up there many times in my old E46M3 and sometimes now go in the Mini. Cars with winter tires work great in tough winters! My sister drives an X5 and a Golf GTi in Canada, they get around just fine |

I am one of many who have sold their M3 only to come running back, bended on one knee.
Bought my first M 9/25/14, sold 3/23/17. Those were the best years of my life. I still remember sneaking into my garage late at night, opening her hood, the feel of her leather. The next 18 months were some of my darkest days, ones I rather forget but will always remember. On November 13, 2018, although with slightly more miles, character dents here and there (the ones only I know about), sunroof, no PDC, CCC, pre-LCI we reunited. What a ride, what a car. Now, everyday is like Christmas. I have a family photo book Id like to share. My first M My 2nd and last M Those first days were the hardest but we made it through it (cheaply may I add due to an undersized, dead battery installation by owner #1). I believe an unintentional mistake. Last edited by InnerBlueSkies; 04-25-2019 at 10:02 AM.. |

I would be of no help, I am a M3 addict. Don't even think there is a 12 step addiction program for that.

Sell the X3 (I've had one, too). Buy a reliable beater? Move to a milder climate? Vancouver? You will regret selling that gorgeous M. Even has a stick and no center hump. Perfect.

I had the chance to drive my friends 440i yesterday, complete with "M sport" package...... and whilst it was undoubtedly fast and refined, the feel is completely different and reminded me why I love driving my M3.
Basically, nothing can save the OP, the addiction is real. |

If you don’t want to get a secondary car for the winters, then sell the m3 if you feel you are not getting enough use from it.
There are other year round options out there. Then again, I only drive my m3 1-2k annually and 911 500 miles. |

I was also considering changing the suspension on the M40 but it seems that I would just waste my money. ;( D. |

There is a cure but it's painful. You need to simply sign it over to me and I promise I won't ever speak to you about it again.

If money is not the issue, sell X3 and get a 4x4 truck. That way you have the utility year round and the M3 for summer.
Do not think there is a car you can buy that will give you the same experience (or even close) that the M3 does that you can drive in summer and winter. The new X5/6Ms are crazy fast, but certainly do not tick all the boxes for pure driving enjoyment. + no manual. Don't do it. |

Don't worry, it's a F80 CS and I would *never* trade the E90 or E92 for it. It's just a third M3

I need to get my E90 back (blown engine) so I can take pics of the M family! If I pick up an E60 M5 I'll have quite the garage of M Power!

You sure you aren't thinking of selling it because of those X3 M40i payments???
I would have gotten a much less expensive winter car, and kept the M3 forever.
