Clicking stock CD player

After six months with the car I finally put a CD in my base BMW "Professional" radio/CD. The slot accepts the CD, but all it does is click repeatedly, no music, with any CD. A cleaning disc had no effect. The dealer wants to sell me a new head unit.

Any ideas what might be going on? Can it be fixed? If so, how? Or should I just find a used head unit? I'd like to keep the audio stock.

Thanks for any advice...

Yeah, the CD player mechanism is probably busted. Could be a bad motor, bad head, etc. Try and find a wrecked car and just swap the unit in.

Maybe someone on here can comment on interchangeability between models. I bet a 328 or 335 player would go right in, but maybe the internals are identical with other BMWs and you could just pull the guts.

People still use CD's these days?

Check out Mworldparts in NJ, they sell a lot of used M parts.
