Which is better DCT or 6MT

Looking for my next car, it will be a low mileage 2013. I originally wanted the DCT for launch control, blah blah blah..... Should I compromise my decision? Thoughts from the brethren?

It's harder to text and drink coffee with a 6MT, so I chose a DCT. Plus, I can cross my legs when I drive without having to worry about depressing the clutch. if these things are important to you (and they should be as this is 2016), your choice is made for you.

Also, faster.

DCT because they don't use manual transmissions in F1

Does it play in to what model holds its resale value better?

Subjective, use the search and spend the next week reading all the comparisons. I've had both and prefer DCT, but that's me.

well if you look at the used market for e46 m3, a manual coupe is holding its value better for sure, but dct is a way better transmission than the crappy smg on e46, so it is hard to say.

DCT is for cock mongers and 6mt is for trannys. Get a CVT.

I personally prefer the level of engagement with the 6MT, as others have said it's subjective and there's a ton of threads on this already.

Yeah, right. And helmets are compulsory in F1.

So do we all wear helmets when driving on the street?

And F1 is a complete yawn-fest.

I've had both. DCT is great if you live in the city or plan on hitting the track. 6MT (what I have now) is just more fun to drive and challenging at the track. My 5 cents.

Having owned an SMG M3, I go back and forth with my 6MT decision. I only drive across town on the weekdays so the 6MT is fine but if I was sitting in a lot of stop and go highway traffic I would have likely looked for DCT. If I was more of a track monkey going for lap times DCT would have been the only choice but being most spirited drives are on the back roads, 6MT is more rewarding.

I had a 09 DCT and now an 08 6MT. For driving around a congested city the DCT was way less stressful for sure. I didn't realize just how low on tq the engine is with the slightly longer 6MT gears. At half throttle I have to shift at 3-4k just to keep up with traffic. Also, the DCT felt faster just because you didn't need to lift at WOT. The 6MT and the S65 is definitely a handful at WOT for making smooth, quick shifts. Takes a lot of practice. The DCT felt boring at times and other than the rev-matching it felt like any other auto.

If I was to buy a third M3 I'd probably go with a 6MT if I could. Just feels more involved, plus not too many 400hp+ V8 sedans are sold these days.
