Advantages to buying local?

Hello,

I'm close to pulling the trigger and buying an M3. I'm now thinking through the logistics of the purchase and delivery.

I live in Atlanta, less than 200 miles from the BMW Performance Center in South Carolina, so I believe I could buy a car (I'd be ordering it of course) through any dealership (seems there's a very helpful one sponsoring these forums) and easily pick it up from the Performance Center.

But are there advantages to buying from my local dealer, where I'll go regularly for service? I don't have any experience with BMW, but I imagine the dealer would give better service to its own customers. How real a concern is this?

I have no illusions of getting the M3 for a steal, but of course I don't want to overpay either.

Thanks for sharing any advice or experiences.

If you like I can set you up with a quote and you can use that to compare with your local dealers deal. We deliver numerous cars a month to the performance center, its def something you should consider. Why pay more then you have to?

As far as getting service from your local dealer when you dont purchase from them shouldn't be an issue. A bmw store makes a large portion of their revenue through their service department, so for them not to want to treat you with the best service possible to earn your business over and over would not be a smart move. People who buy cars from other dealers come into our store all the time, we service them and take care of them whether they buy from us or not.

Very true. I have actually purchased two cars from the same dealer but all my service goes through another dealer. Why? Because the place I bought the cars from has a bad service department. I get treated like gold from the service guys at the other place. OP, you would think you would get better service from the place you bought it at but that is not always the case as strange as that may seem. Buy the car where you can get the best deal, then worry about service later. Just my .02. Hope this helps!
