Unicorn E90 Price - Melbourne/6MT/Slicktop

I have a friend who may be listing his E90 ZCP at some point. He has a price in mind for what it would take to leave his garage tomorrow and I wanted to make a post to help him realize that maybe keeping the car a bit longer is in his best interest.

2011
E90
Melbourne Red
ZCP
Slicktop
6MT
Speed Cloth
No nav
2 owner car
Great condition overall

Roughly 75k miles and I believe fairly up to date on maintenance. No RB or TA job as far as I know but I think he would do this before selling.

Wanted to hear what others think of price now vs what it might sell for in a year or two.

Thanks

***Update***
Wanted to post that currently he is planning to keep/drive the car for the foreseeable future.

It's got 75k miles so values probably flat from here next few years unless he doesn't drive it. Drive it regularly and ur closing in on 100k miles. $$$ for TAs and RBs next few years.

Did he buy the car off the used lot at Hendrick BMW in CLT?

Look at this beauty for only $31k

Yeah honestly without RB's/TA's done and it's not a Competition package maybe 30kish because of the 75k miles? 35k+ cars are usually those under 50k miles.

Wow..I'm in for pictures. Any modifications? ~28-32k sounds right depending on buyer. Maybe on the lesser side because no rod bearings / TBAs.

I updated OP with the only pics I have. How about price with RB and TA's done as he plans to do that if he were to list it. Only mods that I know of are ACM exhaust mod, lux angels, black grille, painted sidemarker with tinted signal and painted reflectors

It's north of 40k

That one for sale is beautiful indeed but not manual. He did not buy the car off a lot it was a private sale outside of the state of NC. I do remember a bimmerpost member who had a red slicktop manual ZCP with 120k miles (may have been that very car) and it was listed for 30k and sold around 20k.

Sorry his is ZCP too. I agree I think his car is roughly 35k market right now. But I do see it going up slightly each year if he only drove 1-3k miles a year. That's why I'm trying to tell him it's better to either drive it and enjoy with lots of miles, or at least keep it and use it as a weekend fun toy to keep miles low.

Didn't know it was a ZCP too! I noticed it had a dealer tag in the pic, is your friend a dealer? Has he had the car for a while or is he more looking to flip it? No real use in doing TBAs preventatively—although it is a pretty decent selling point. As for rod bearings, I'd reckon one could get back 75%+/- of what they paid to have them done when it comes to sell the car. It also opens up the potential market, as I know some people are more hesitant to buy a car that hasn't had its rod bearings done yet.

For the right buyer mid-30s doesn't sound unobtainable, although it would have to be the right buyer. I wouldn't expect it to sell instantly at that price. Once you start getting into $40k territory people expect low miles, enthusiast ownership history w/ a plethora of maintenance records & documentation, etc etc.

Agreed on all points. He works with a used car dealer but came across this car private sale I think maybe on Craigslist but I can't remember. It didn't go through the dealer auction or anything although they also do find some gems.

I'm going to see what others have to say but hope that if he hears this from more than just me then maybe he might plan to keep the car longer. He never bought it with intention to flip but it's hard to not think about it when you see some of these unicorns going for 50k. However it's the miles that's really the biggest factor. That and 6MT. I think he has had the car for almost a year now.

I sure hope this sells for $40K+ and it will raise the average selling price of these cars in turn making my car more valuable.

If the car is clean and well documented I'd list it on BAT. I think you'd probably be able to find the guy willing to pay close to $40k for an enthusiast spec. More than that I doubt especially if he keeps driving it.

I paid $39.5 for my E90, but it's loaded, I wanted a spec for an ultimate daily not a weekend cruiser. I'm willing to believe someone on the west coast would love this as a weekend car that will fit their kids too.

The value increase that these cars may or may not see is going to be offset by the operating cost (not to mention the opportunity cost vs. most other investments). Cars are a bad investment.

If we wants to sell the car, he should sell it. If he wants to keep it, he should keep it. Keeping a $30k car that may slightly appreciate if he doesn't drive it is *not* a good financial decision. He should do that if he wants to, but not because he's going to "make money."

Well said. ^^^

This car is a driver at 75k miles. If it was a 5k mile garage queen it would be $60k on BAT and $80K at EAG. The owner can perfect it and mothball it and in 5 years he's looking at $50k but that will cost more than any appreciation money to maintain, insure, interest charges if-financed and to store.

Given it's a ZCP which was not posted originally easy to get $35k maybe more as is, possibly $40k+ with RBs and all maintenance up to date. BAT would bring the most money. Minus $1000 for that front mounted plate.

It's a very cool spec - refreshing that someone knew how to properly order a car back in 2011.

I'd say $35k as is right now is a good starting point - very nice spec though, I really like how MR looks on the e9x.

Also don't forget to factor in inflation.

whoa 35K? I haven't been up to date on the pricing...

what about a 50k mile single owner Aw/FR slicktop DCT comp E90? Am I looking for roughly the same price? more for less miles, but less for DCT?

^ Mid-high 30Ks sounds right.
Manuals may sell a little quicker but they don’t have near the same premium a 6MT does over an SMG E46. And your color combo is more desirable.
I will be very happy the day any E90M with 75K sells for >$40K.

If he changes his mind, let me know. I'm right here in Raleigh too. I recently bought a w/nav car because I got impatient but I'd jump at a single hump, speed cloth 6speed manual.

Only 212 Melbourne Red E90 M3's were sold in total in North America for the 2008-2011 model years.

That plus this spec is extremely rare.
