flaky iphone connection

the connection from iphone through the USB port used to work well. however gradually it has developed this problem that, i'd lost connection intermittently, or it can't detect the phone under the "multimedia menu". it was intermittent, i couldn't figure out what would trigger it.

this morning, it could detect it, i can connect to the phone but the content play from the phone came with lots of static, the connection would last maybe 10s and then disconnect. tried reconnect multiple times behavior stayed the same.

anyone know what's up with this?

Try replacing the cable, mine is exhibiting some symptoms of a cable going bad as well.
