Akropovic Slip On - Too Loud?
I recently installed an akro slip on and got the ess tune stage 1 tune. After driving around all weekend, I'm starting to get a feel that this may be too loud. To me, it just doesn't sound right, and wondering if anyone out there has gone through the same, if anyone has found a solution - possibly with a full install or maybe an alternative tune...
My brothers porsche is just as loud but we can hear each other without getting too much drone/base. Any advice, thoughts or experience would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. |

Slip On only is benign and quiet. That being said most folks that run the full EVO find it not to be overly loud as well.

are you serious man? i got my slip on paired with hcf & xpipes and now i want to go catless bacause it's not loud enough, i actually think it's not even loud at all and there is zero drone to me even with the xpipes.
I have gone through quite different exhausts and it's the quitest one out of all of them, Gintani, AA, Borla and meistershaft, etc.. Check with akrapovic or your vendor to see if you've purchased the race version for the slip on. ![]() |

more bassy but not loud IMO...very happy with mine and always turn heads or get compliments on the sound....
you could always consider the OEM M performance exhaust...or even an eisemann sport or challenge exhaust...all drone friendly with good tone....it's hard to say which is best as tone/loundess/drone can be very subjective and individual....if you have an opportunity, you should here a few other brands...I'm guessing you didn't hear an akra slip on in person before you purchased..seeing as you're location is nor cal, there should be no problem finding various exhaust set ups local to you... I don't see a tune being able to change the noise level too much, you're still going to go thru all the rpm ranges no matter what, but perhaps you could get a cold start delete which might help with initial noise....

Not loud at all. I think the the full EVO system on my gf's car is too quiet when warmed up.
When it start in the first time in the morning....it is LOUD, but after that, it is fairly mellow.

Not loud, but it does drone at certain rpms and I can see someone mistaking that for being loud in general. I remember being annoyed by this when I had just the slip-on so I made sure I was a bit higher in the RPMs to get away from the drone.

Loud is subjective. Unless someone can hear you coming from blocks away, then it's loud. We should meet up, we have many guys in the Fremont area that meet up on a regular basis.

The Akra Evo is as loud as I would want an exhaust to be on my car. Any more and you're just looking for attention.

You should listen to my Innotech F1 EVO exhaust if you think a slip is loud

Akrapovic Slip-on is one of the quietest exhausts available for the E9X M3. In fact, the Akrapovic Evolution is quieter than a lot of the other cat back systems out there.
I think you may need to put your stock exhaust back on if you find the Akrapovic Slip-on too loud.......... There aren't many exhausts out there that are going to be quieter than the slip on, except maybe the M-Performance or the Milltek Sport. |

He's talking about the bass-y drone that happens at certain rpms. It totally drowns out the cabin especially with the windows down. Anyone with an akra slip-on should know what he's talking about.

I did notice a slight drone or bassy sound when I first placed slip-on. Since switching to full Evo setup, the sound is louder, but with less drone or bassy tone. I definately like the sound of the full Evo setup better. Deleting the primary cats on any exhaust will definately amp things up a bit.
