Some progress pictures.

Once the rear parcel shelf came out, a cool rear cage landing zone concept was incorporated since I am running a true coil over in the rear.

Today the base plates were welded in and boxes made and tacked in. Tube work starts this afternoon.

I upgraded from JRZ RS-PRO (2 way) to JRZ Motorsport 3 way with upgraded pistons. Truly magical.

Doors look absolutely incredible!!
This is my new favourite build, and rightfully so.
It's so cool, because I have an SS too, and it'll hopefully look similarly one day.

A couple questions:

1) I went on the HGK site, and didn't see Carbon E90 Doors?

2) I also got nervous because when you click E90, it shows a non-M3 E90 in WTCC form, but not sure if E90 non M3 doors are the same as E90 M3 doors?

3) How is fitment? Does it line up to the fender and rear quarter panel body-lines?

4) If I have the Plastics4Performance Polycarbonate Glass, will that work with these doors?

Thank-you so much, and I look forward to hearing back from you!

Sincerely,
Alex

Doors should be the same non-M vs M3 sedan. It was for the coupe when I had my M3.

Thanks Alex!

It has been a bit of an adventure dealing with HGK. Though their responsiveness is generally acceptable, the order ending up taking over a month longer than promised. Why? It turns out that though they (previously) advertised carbon doors, they had never actually made a set! So, they must have tried and failed on the first go around and then made a second set. However, they uses their fiberglass mold for my set and could not get the finish right. My guess is that they tried to duplicate their fiberglass wet layup process rather than a dry method and then realized they could not hide the finish imperfections on a carbon product like they could with fiberglass. So, I am looking into options for cleaning up the door finish.

Apart from the finish, the door design and build quality is actually quite nice and the doors are shockingly light. They even used a kevlar inner layer for extra strength which was a nice surprise. The fitment (same for M and non-M) is decent for race parts, but not great. The right side is quite good but the left side requires a lot of tweaking, though I am confident they will fit properly when finished.

I also ordered P4P glass and it will absolutely work with these doors.

Hope that helps.

Owen

Owen,

Are you planning on mounting the lexan glass or using a slide method?

Have you see these? They’re on a couple race cars in buddies shop and it’s pretty sweet. Obviously you manually pull the “window panel” up and down. But seals really nicely.

I can't mount the lexan since most events require that you lower the fronts. My thought was to have them pinned so they are easily removable, but I think I like your suggestion better. Thanks!

Thanks for the insight, Owen.

Couple follow-up questions:

1) What do you do about the mirrors and door handles mounting? I don't see those sections cutout.

2) Do you need to run any weather-stripping / rubber door trim?

3) Can you also share some photos of what the inner door cards look like? Are you running the stock interior door cards, or does HGK make a carbon door card for the E90 interior?

Thanks Owen,
Alex

1. I am going to use my stock pieces.

2. I do not believe so, but haven't gotten that far. Will let you know.

3. There are actually pictures of the HGK carbon cards in the above picture (on the ground).
