No, you should use a charger specifically compatible with Lifepo4 batteries. The CTEK chargers are popular and the same BMW offers.

Alright, I might have to bite the bullet and get one. When my tank is 1/2 full vs full, there's a 50-60LB difference. Car is way more nimble when the tank is 1/2 full, making me faster around corners. I now understand why people are doing these.

Since I daily mine, do you recommend 60mah so there's no sacrifice in performance at all? Or is 40mah still the go-to for all around cost and performance. Car is garaged kept, don't drive under 50 degrees. I use a NOCO 5 to maintain, which also works on LIPO.

The only people who have issues with AG are the ones running the very tiny motorsport ones that barely has enough power to crank over. Mostly user errors is what I've learned, forget to unplug something or leaving the key in the ignition overnight.

I'm running 24Ah with zero issues for past 12 months. Drive exclusively track & to/from. Car sits on trickle when garaged.

I would always run the 60Ah if possible.

What type of operation would warrant the 80Ah (group 49/H8)? I daily my E90M (including seasonal sub-freezing if not snowing) and am planning on the 60Ah/H8.

Should be using a H7 on E9X Chassis, but we have 80AH available:

When charging with a Lifepo4 charger, do you attach directly to the battery? Or use the under the hood connections?

Either is fine.

What makes you say this? (Not questioning, just looking for more background on why) I need a new battery and am contemplating one of these. Most of my driving is to/from the track with the occasional weekend trips around town. Could/would be plugged into a trickle charger otherwise. Considering that use case would the 60 still be preferred?

There's no need for all that with a 60A. only a ~$100/3lb difference between the two.

Some have no problem running a 40A. May not be an issue when the battery is brand new, but the smaller CCA may be an issue later down the road after the cells age, the peace of mind with a higher CCA is worth it for me.

Makes sense. I’m not looking to save $100 and 3 lbs if it means having issues after a few years. Appreciate the feedback.

Typically, this is needed for colder climates on cold start, but it never hurts to have additional CCAs.

What did you code your 24ah battery as? Did you use bimmercode and bimmerlink?
