Ordered a set of the new Nexen Sport-R tires... They seem to be pretty damn fast and Mike at TPM said they're wearing less than 660's after 4 events.

Revshift 80A's installed during Rod Bearings a few months back. NVH increase very slight. As OEM+ as it gets. No regrets thus far

I'm not super happy with the life of the Ferodo DS1.11. I'm getting 5 days out of them on my AP 9660 kit. At $600 for a front set, it's not cheap. It's the only performance pad I've been on so I don't know what else is out there.

They always show up though, confidence inspiring.

I think my end solution will be to upgrade to the 9668 kit so I can run 25mm pads vs. 18mm. The small weight penalty is worth it to me. That will force me to run different e88s up front. The 18x10 won't clear. Have to move to a 10.5 and potentially spacers, which I don't really want to deal with at the moment.

That pad life isn’t terrible for a heavy car. Plus the 9660 pads aren’t super big. If you added ducting you’d probably get 30% more life out of them.

I did a bachelor party two weeks ago, which had a couple buddies who are race engineers and everyone said to run ducting.

that price and life expectancy is about what you can expect from any brand. as stated, you can help by keeping them cool.
in my experience, laguna seca really wears on the inner passenger side pad, so see if your experience is consistent and place pads appropriately as you prep for the next track day to try and extend pad life.

another thing about ferodo pads- when they get low, they start to chunk and fall apart. i know you're not really supposed to let pads get below backing plate thickness, but sometimes it happens. in my experience with ferodo pads, once the pads get to backing plate thickness they chunk apart and you'll lose the whole pad. next time you go for the brakes, nobody will be home for a couple presses.

I swap the pads outside to in every few days. I run vorshlag brake deflectors in my e46 m3 and I get plenty of life from my ferodo pads.

Sometimes you can't beat the physics of driving a big heavy car.

Essex is really big on if you run ducting it needs to be done properly. You need to feed air to the discs in the correct way otherwise you may defeat the whole purpose of ducting. For whatever reason ducting on e9x cars isn't nearly as common as on the E36/E46 cars. I think with the newer caliper designs you can get away with no ducting for shorter stints. But if you do ducting properly there is zero downside.

For whatever its worth my 2400# E36 widebody has ducting and huge brakes....

You could run NACA ducts parallel to the ground mounted somewhere on the splash guard and run 2-2.5" ducts to the backing plates. Did this on my F80 that weighed 3550# with good results.

Need to order more temp stickers though, or just bite the bullet and pickup legit IR thermometer.

On the topic of heat, has anyone tried the Michelin PSC2 connect tires? They seem really gimmicky but with my recent tire issues I'd love more tire data without going the route of IR sensors + Aim logging ($$$).

I also have an electrical engineering buddy who made it sound pretty easy to run IR sensors in the wheel wells to a small LCD screen in the car. Would be a fun DIY.

Since our front fender liners do not have any ducting built it, the second option I posted is most likely a good route. You can either make custom backing plates for your rotors and run tubing as shown to a vent on the wishbone with minimal custom work.

Get in touch with CarboTech (ctbrakes.com) and try their pads before a drastic move to a different caliper.

I reached out to Essex. Unfortunately I already ordered fresh ds1.11 last week since I have Laguna again on 8/6 - 8-7. But they pointed me to the ds3.12, higher Mu and more longevity.
