Is no MDM, EDC, and Nav a turn off?
Hello all
Looking to buy a friends 6MT e90 M3. 2009 car. no tech package so no nav. Car is void of M dynamic mode button as well, and not optioned with edc. Only has premium pack, heated seats, sunroof, adjustable width seats. Is lack of MDM a real deal breaker? Im guessing that means no servotronic/ adjustable steering feel? I personally don't mind not having nav. but I feel I will miss MDM (for steering adjustment) and EDC (more comfort in city). Main concern is if this will have an impact on resale value in the future? What do most people look for? Any and all opinions welcome! |

It won't really impact resale value as base "stripper" cars have their own followers.
But only you could answer if you will miss those features or not. Personally my car has MDM and EDC but I am on coilovers (Ohlin's) which I would recommend. Therefor I don't use EDC. MDM is great if you're looking for high performance traction control. I personally always have it turned off so I don't use that either. At the end of the day, you have to see if those options are important to you. In my opinion, if the car is clean and you like everything else about it, I say do it! |

All that stuff is over rated. I have all that crap and I'm feeling the guilt of removing it as the car transitions into a track car.

the biggest factor in the resale of that car is the sunroof...
without idrive you can still adjust the steering weight. I custom-ordered my E92 with EDC and no nav, but with individual paint. You couldn't pay me to have the nav in the E9X. EDC is relatively useless as well. My E90 didn't have it and it was just fine. Any decent suspension, OEM or Bilstien B12 for example, are well judged for regular use |

I wouldn't buy one without MDM. I don't want traction fully off and I don't want it fully on. I'm always in that mode. If it's truly a stripper though they're will always be a market for the car.

IF you want MDM Retro and Code it In. In my humblest asshole opinion.. EDC is pointless if you plan to modify the suspension in any way. 90% of us probably wouldn't pay the extra costs for edc compatible suspension. So if you're gonna do springs and aftermarket struts or Coilovers... worrying about EDC is completely pointless. Also, as for tech package, there are tons of options to add in CIC/Nav, or even aftermarket touch screens either in the center console, or oem nav screen place. One the beautiful things about BMW, is they leave us the ability to add/remove features in cars vs most other manufacturers just say, didn't come with it. should of bought it with/without. |

My car has none of these features. Doesn't even have iDrive. The lack of tech was a major draw for me. The only thing I sometimes wish I had is MDM's stability control mode.

I wouldn’t say it’s a deal breaker. I have nav but no edc/no mdm. I haven’t missed it. It would be neat to have, but when I drive autox or track I don’t use it.
If you like the car, go for it. |

It all depends on your personal preferences. When I was shopping around, I wanted an iDrive car. I can't stand the look of the interior without the iDrive screen. I also got the M button with that, so I have MDM (which I'd have to activate through the iDrive using the M button). I never used MDM though. I'm also either traction on or traction off. I'm not a fan of the MDM. I also wanted a non EDC car since I knew I was going to throw the car on coilovers (which I did).
Here's my car below... |

Mine doesn't have EDC or nav/idrive but does have MDM (also no sunroof or leather). I hated having too many options on my previous cars so I find my current setting refreshing. Just get in and drive. Less things to break as well.

It really depends on how much you pay for the car.
Out off the options you mentioned, MDM is probably the most valuable one at this point. EDC is, meh. Does it work? Yes but it's not amazing like magnetic ride control on GM vehicles. And EDC shocks cost over $2K a set if you need to replace them. I would rather go with stock non-EDC or Ohlins (or maybe Bilstein B6 EDC) when it's time to replace. Nav wasn't great on these car when they first came out, and compared to newer CarPlay and stuff it's trash, but iDrive is nice. After all it's all about how much you are paying for the car

When do you ever use the i-drive when truly driving the car? The answer is never or barely ever.
EDC? Most of the cars today have worn EDC shocks that will need replacing anyways, car without EDC is easier to swap straight to a high-end set of coilovers, thus making EDC pretty pointless. No MDM? No problem. Retrofit it, costs less than $500 to do so and it maintains all the program/functionality that an MDM car would have. Just remember, the GTS M3 never had i-drive either. Here's my stripper.

How do I do this?
I have a stripper I don’t miss idrive at all I’m also on coils so edc is useless. Mdm mode does seem kind of neat as you can configure your settings into one button but im either full traction off or on anyway so I don’t really need mdm mode either. |

The steering weight is hidden in the complex menu of the odometer screen. You get 2 choices vs 3 for idrive cars |
