For those who have an E93 and winterize, is it better to have the hard top up or down? Are the mechanisms and pistons in a relaxed state when the roof is down, thus a better position to winterize?

Believe you are right, happened to be looking @ these the other day. They're a quality brand in this field, I'd contend possibly even better then BMW trickle unit. But when to use a trickle , and when to use an actual charger?

Disconnect the negative battery terminal when you store the car.

Make sure the battery is fully charged up prior to use.
(Sorry for dense question; how can you check batteries current "health" or charge status?)

Without an expensive battery tester you can't. I just plug the charger on the new battery as a matter of course. They can sit on the shelves for a long time before someone buys them.
