You can greatly extend the life of your helmet by wearing a head sock and cleaning the helmet padding/lining out with one of those special cleaners like Helmet Fresh or Molecule. Also, avoid leaving it out in direct sunlight for extended periods, UV will degrade things faster.

Alternatively, replace the pads once a year if you can't remember to clean them.

haha, this is funny.
I did training and race them.
I supposed it was my introduction to speed and "taking the turn"
I learned how to trim the hoof, but nothing major for that we had a specialist coming
Back then I was on one horse, now I am on 600 horses

If you're not using it that often like Steve that's one thing and I get that perspective, but my helmet goes on my head nearly 40-50+ times/year between Autocross/Track time and I doubt it will even make it longer than another year or two. lol

In my background in the horse world you so much as drop your helmet on the ground you're supposed to replace it and most of the people I know riding jumpers got new helmets every year or 2years. I don't see that same mentality shared in the motorsports world and the pricing on the items are in the same ballpark.
Honestly, I am not a track rat. I hit up like maybe 2-3 events a year. So 2-3. my 2010 helmet bought in 2011 I could probably sell "Like new" based on how it looks. I treat it immaculately. Same with my gloves, I know some people will leave their gloves on, torque some lugs, check tire pressures, but all mine touch is the steering wheel

i've had my helmet for about five years now. its a sa2010. still looks new, and doesn't really stink (i'm not a sweater). i don't drop it, and store it in it's cloth cover, in its box, in a cabinet.

i remember when i was buying it, it was nearly impossible to get a newer rating, so i got this bell sport at a good discount new. if the rating was good for ten years, and i could buy one that was good for another ten years, i'd be happy. its been a while and i'm going to be looking at helmets soon, but i'd be annoyed if all they have is sa2015's and a false scarcity of sa2020's.

Any recommendations for HPDE groups at the following?

Road Atlanta
VIR
Sebring
Road America
Mid Ohio
Watkins Glen

I'm going to try to hit at least 3 of them next year. Really want to start getting out to these tracks so going to keep all options open to be able to drive them. Think I should be able to work them in between SCCA & NASA - but who knows how things will go in 21.

I know Chin does Road Atlanta, VIR, & Sebring - but not sure about any others that go out there or at any of the other tracks.

Thanks!

For the Midwest tracks, check MVP Track Time or Laps Inc. I have run with both multiple times and they are about on-par with Chin.

I've run with Phoenix CMR at the Glen many times, they do a great job.
Hot swap overs and 40min. sessions.

Chin for all of the tracks (except Road America) is the best.

I have done Hooked on Driving and TrackDaze with VIR. PCA has a number of events but tech with those guys can be problematic since I self tech.

I have done Just Track It at Road Atlanta.

I have done SCDA and PCA Niagara Region at WGI. theglen.com has a track rental calendar that shows all of the groups for all of the days. There is always something going on.

MVP does Road Atlanta and Mid Ohio.

Sebring can be done with Performance Driving Group. Pretty laid back, not a ton of cars, often you can have the whole track to just a couple of cars by the early afternoon.

@slicer one of my fasttt as hell friends agrees with you on the SPL parts comment.

Do you happen to have the specs for screws written down somewhere? I'd like to figure it out and order ahead of time. I have the front parts including sway bar endlinks going on the car tomorrow. Will use the titanium bits first

I don't have the specs. I would need to work on that

Went to my first event with NASA Mid Atlantic over the weekend, set a personal best on Summit Main on Saturday (in video) and then beat that time by over a second running a 1.22.20 on Sunday (didn't have my Go Pro on)

Love it

Can I put in a request first that you please try to focus on the 180 and up TW segment this year? Particularly a comparison between say RS4 vs the falken 660 & Rival 1.5S in both performance & durability
