I just installed the baseplate and snap-in adaptor and ran the video lines to the CIC as the final part of my 2012 CIC retrofit..
The snap in I bought from the dealer last week seems to be worthless. It charges the phone and boosts the signal strength, but it doesn't let me use BMW Apps, play music or anything else, which works fine out of the center USB. My part number ends in 390, and it says Hardware 2.0. I talked to a BMW technician friend of mine, and he said there is another part number that supercedes the one I have. Hopefully they have it in stock so I can try it as with the current one I woulnd't have spent the time retrofitting it at all.

The one I have currently is a 3.0 which still doesn't work for me. I still need to come by your way. I can bring it if you want to try it as well.

Wow... 3.0 doesn't work either?? This is a shame.. If I can at least get it to play music, I would be happy. I only went this route because I had the baseplate already.. Reflecting on it I should have just configured the armrest USB port for video and called it a day. I would love to try the cradle if you are ever in the area. The only thing mine does is charge. No 6NR Connected drive, or even music at all. But with armrest USB everything works. I don't get it.. If anything it should be the other way around, and I know the coding and wiring is correct.. That leaves the snap-in... I'm heading down to the car to figure out the Internet stuff... I'm not paying BMW a subscription fee to use my phone and my plan through the car.

I have the exact same issue as you. Phone works and charges but apps almost never work.
I guess let me know what day this week works best and I can come by and see if we can get a couple things done. |

I have never gotten it to detect, even once... Does yours play music? I am going to go look at the version I have now, I think its a very early Hardware 2.0 Calling a few dealers to see who has what... I found a 9/11 hardware 2.0 at south bay, but am keen on getting a hardware 3.0. If no one has it, I will try the later 2.0 in the meantime in hopes of gaining some functionality other than a $300 charger...

But does it play music through the cradle? Or only 1/20 for that too? I've plugged it in about 5 times total and the only thing that works is charging. If I got 6NR to work once I'd be excited as I am trying to rule out wiring/hardware issues at this point. I just got off the phone with my parts girl at Center, they have the version 3.0. Going there now to pick it up and try it, and then off to south bay to return the POS 2.0 I'll report back

It would play music but the plugin portion would only work seldomly. Apps would almost never work. It made no difference from the 2.0 to 3.0, same issue.

As far as wiring, there are three connectors that come from the baseplate: 1) Blue Connectivity wire going back to blue port on combox, this is a direct connection. 2) 18pin connector that provides power, etc.. 3) Antenna connector I think it's near impossible for me to have hooked it up wrong, I did have to add 6 pins to the 18 pin connector for video and usb aux, but none should be related to playing music or 6NR (other than potentially the audio), as its a direct connection to the combox. So I'm scratching my head on this one. We will know shortly how 3.0 works in my car..

Everyone... we have IGNITION! I plan on posting pictures when I have some time in the next week.. Switched the cradle out 390-02 with hardware 2.0 with the 390-04 hardware 3.0.... and guess what? It works!!!!!! It immediately found my phone in the snap in adapter. Connected drive works perfectly, pandora, the ipod plugin, web radio, web apps, etc.. Everything works as designed now! I am so happy that I didn't tear the car apart yesterday trying to figure out where I did the wiring wrong. I was positive that I did everything right and I always triple check to make sure. It was really bothering me that the snap in didn't work.. so for those of you having issues - make sure you have at least the 390-04 Hardware 3.0 one, and it should work as intended. So just to recap: With hardware 2.0 I had no connected drive, no pandora, and not even music. Only charging. After swapping with hardware 3.0, everything that previously didn't work functions as intended. I tried it multiple times and it works every time for me without fail with the new adapter. Now I can finally pat myself on the back as the CIC retrofit is 100% complete, functioning with Internet too I hope this post will steer people in the right direction in attempts to avoid "cradle hell".

Sounds like a nice result. So the 04 suffix appears to be relevant? Strange how some version 2s seem to be working and some don't. The cradle is a nice piece and makes all the combox retrofit effort worthwhile. Looks like BMW will be getting quite a few V2 returns here |

The same dealer currently has a 2012 car in at the moment with the same issues as you. The V3 isn't working for him either. He tells me they are waiting for a new updated media version to come in. I am assuming this will be a V4? I don't know if it makes any difference that my Combox and baseplate is a retrofit and yours is factory installed? |

We can always try my snap-in adapter and see if it works. Maybe there are not only issues between different versions, but issues across the same version numbers as well.. Who knows.. it's a shame that these snap-ins were not perfected before they released a product that was obviously not ready for the market. It should be measure twice, cut once.
