I didn't know what it was for (and my service advisor never explained it) but now I know it's related to this recall.
Interesting just had my 2020 m340 in for an unrelated issue. SA told me oh there is a DME recall. He only said "they updating the whole system " never mentioned breaks.🤔
When you program with ista, it will update any ECU that isn't at the latest software level. Sometimes, it's only one or two, other times it's 15 or so

This is so true. First braking after start is like braking without servo assisted brakes. (2021 M340iX). After several brakings the pedal is firm and stopping distance is short.

According to the article "SIB 12 06 21" addresses the recall but maybe it addresses additional things as well. I'm always weary of how these updates will affect the performance of the car but so far I haven't noticed any change. We'll have to see.

No change for as well. In fact feels as if throttle response is better at low end

Had an airbag switch recall on my previous Merc, airbag could go off at any moment! Just take it in and they'll deal with it.

The dealership. Besides, its a free service. The NHTSA may not be up to date yet.

Got the call yesterday and I called the dealer today for more info. It's the programable control unit and related to the oil pump she said. M340 here
