2013 e92 M3 trade for 2016 f80
Hi guys,
I have a 2013 e92 in Santorini blue and I absolutely love this car! I am toying with the idea of selling my car to fund other life investments but one day after expressing interest in selling, a guy offered to straight trade me his 2016 f80 comp.? My car has 70k kms, the f80 has 47k kms.. I thought it was a little interesting to say the least! My question is do I entertain this or not? I've always been against the f8X platform as I could have bought one years back but chose to get a very special e92 instead. Thoughts? -Kris

Based on what though? Could I get more for the f80 if I sold it? It's a plane (white on red) spec f80 vs an individual and rare e92
I'm thinking not but I haven't really been following the used f8x market..

I’m not anti-F gen M3 but the way I see it is there’s a definite reason he wants to go back to a previous gen M3

I think it goes both ways.
There are plenty of e90/92 owners upgrading to the f80 platform as well. This forum is biased obviously. I’m sure if you posted on the f80 board, you would get comments like what are you waiting for? Make the trade. Good luck on your decision. |

If the thing is clean for service records/no accidents and checks out I would absolutely make the trade if the car was specced closely to how I would want an F80.

OP, if your SB E92 is in good shape - keep it. Drive and enjoy another couple of years while looking after it. At that point I bet you can still trade vs the F80 even with money in between. Not saying F80 is bad at all but you'll be driving turbos in future anyhow whether you like it or not.

Personally, I don’t find rare colors important.
A white m3 drives the same as a rare colored m3. |

The f8x has nice asthetics in my honest opinion. It's a handsome car and we should all give it that...
Only issue I keep running into with the new gen M is the fact that there's just nothing special under the hood, and that's what really stinks, especially since the M heritage always revolves around a beautiful, unique motor special to that specific era... Regardless, every time I see one rolling around my town I definetly respect it. |

Not a bad deal IMO
If you were thinking about selling it and you don't hate F gen M3, that's a good chance to upgrade. Cuz you wanna sell it anyways. We only talk about the value, nothing about personal preference. |

Personally, I would trade, the f80 is still under warranty, which could be extended through BMW another 4.
I'm never going to let go of my 3 but have zero interest in driving or treating it like an investment...I see cars like my guns, they're tools. If it dies, I'll pick the exact same one up with lower miles for a couple thousand more, we are ages away from E36 E46 territory, |

Thanks for the help guys. I wasn't really looking for another m3, I mostly wanted to sell it for the cash to fund another investment and then possibly buy another one back in a couple years.
The reason I asked you guys was more based on values of the car. I'm not interested in the f80 platform but if I could make a couple more dollars from selling the car after trading to the newer generation, that seems like a no brainer to me.

Most people go back to the E9x surprisingly. I personally had 3 friends that went back to the E92 platform.
