Car looks great man. I am right about where you are with the interior just I don't have the door pannels. Anything you pull out will never go back in there so yank and cut that crap out of there.....atleast thats what I did

There's still a ton of wiring, airbag module and wires associated, idrive CD player AC heater core, etc - but that's later when I won't drive it on the street.

I think my friend put his ac back in after failed attempts driving back home or to track with a USB powered fan velcroed to the dash just blowing hot ass air
It's a smart move for any dedicated track car that doesn't see real street time IMO. Carpet fume is bad news bears if you end up on fire

It's not too bad. I just used a heat gun and it came up in pretty sizable chunks. The PIA area were wherever seam sealer was present.

I'm going to use the dry ice and rubber mallet method when I come to do mine. Looks a lot easier and cleaner than the heat gun and scraper method.

dry ice ftw

making what amounts to tar hotter is not a great way to get it off something, until you reach temperatures that are less than ideal for your survival

anyone knows how much weight savings for just striping the rear? Like carpet, sound deadening, panels, center tray console etc?

There's a thread on weight savings from easily removed items (and not so easily) in the suspension forum it's a sticky

Ya, I have looked into that post many times. I have already removed most of the stuff from the back end, such as rear seats, side bolsters, trunk liners, tool kit, etc. but still deciding if it's worth the effort to remove the carpets and sound deadening to shave another few pounds. My car also has the power rear sunshade, that will be at least another good 5lbs I believe. Probably I am just going to do it anyways since I barely drive it on the street.

I started doing some weight reduction but it was slowly. First it was a bucket seat for the drivers side, then beginning this year I removed my rear seat. My last track session I installed my bucket seat for the passenger. I do like the interior look now, more track functional but still drivable on the street.

I am going to try the freezer can and rubber mallet method this Saturday. I'll report on how it goes.

It's just asphalt with a adhesive layer. Same thing as dynamat. You do need a respirator if you use xylene to get the rest of the black goo off.

Wow, that actually is quite a lot, more than what I thought. Guess I will be doing it this weekend lol, thanks for the info.

weighed the center divider/console. Mine has idrive plus usb stuff in the compartment and the prehistoric iphone cradle.

9 pounds?? I thought it was heavy because I had a ton of coins, bolts, etc but I thought I had more than I actually did.

I'm also going to attempt to fab up some simple carbon fiber panels for the doors and to replace the center console.
