6 Center Console buttons???
I know I'm being nick picky about this...I know should enjoy the car (which I am and will), but I like to see a complete dash and not fake buttons...
The car is a 2011 E92 M3 that I just took delivery today. See image below... Buttons 1 & 6: Why did they move the heated seat buttons up to the climate control area? Of the other BMWs I have owned in the past (or still own today), the heated seat button has always been down there... Button 2: I will assume this is the PDC button that is only available in Europe since we in the US do not get front PDC as an option. Button 3: Ok, this is the rear roller sun blinds Button 4: This is probably the hill decent button that is only available on the automatic 3 series? Button 5: Ok, this is the auto start / stop button If they left the heated seats where they were then it wouldn't appear to have so many fake buttons. I can understand buttons 2 & 4 but why 1 & 6. Perhaps due to the new auto start / stop button? Oh well, that's all I had to say and get off my chest. Now time to enjoy this awesome machine.

good question, I always wondered myself. But I have an 08 where my seat heaters are in 1 and 6 position.
You're correct about the front PDC button position, and obviously the sunshade button. |

I agree about the change, I preferred the buttons all on the bottom. My E90 335 had the old style, where if you had heated seats and the rear sunshade there were no fake buttons. Just the three you needed and space in between. I understand BMW's logic in placing the heated seat controls with the climate control but they should have engineered a better solution for the sunshade button if they were dead set on moving the seat heater buttons.

Glad you all agree with me. When I was going through all the options at the dealer I was like what the hell happened to the heated seats? Did they forget? Since I naturally looked at the bottom center console buttons as that's where it is for most BMWs from the last billion years. LOL.
Perhaps a front PDC retrofit is in order (if it's not too expensive). I don't think it would be easy to move the heated seats down though, that will be costly to swap the HVAC controls and console buttons. Oh well, just live with this small gripe, at least the rest of the car is freaking awesome to outweight this tiny visual flaw. I did a search after my post and found this other thread that discussed this already: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=371091

So if you did NOT order the rear sunshade all these fake buttons won't be there? Or they will?

All others unused, which I personally think sucks. Looks like I bought the discount M without any options, LOL :-) |

Ditto. But mine is an old 2011 not the new and improved 2011.5

They moved the heated seat buttons because of the F25 X3, which has no such console and the HVAC control is the same, so the buttons should have been somewhere. Number 2 is the front PDC turn on. Number 4 is the HDC for the x-drive models.
The only two cars I've ever seen with all the buttons were: One of the first LCI-s 320d Xdrive with MT and 120d Cabrio MT where buttons 3 & 4 are roof up and roof down. Here in Europe there is still a chance to get all the buttons and the options are: 320d xdrive MT with Manual AC and no Navi + front and rear PDC and Roller Sun Blind or cabrio 118d/120d/123d or 118i/120i with manual AC and Heated Seats

The 2011 (2011.5?) model here has that completely empty, I don't know why but it did not come with auto start stop nor the M mode that people said 2011.5 would automatically have

All 2011.5+ will have the button bar regards of options due to the auto engine on/off button. The only remaining implementation on a US spec car would be the addition of the rear sun shade button as an optioned item. I like the fact that they moved the heated seats to the HVAC controls...much more logical.
