BMW_Anthony's E92 M3 Coupe Build Thread

Hello, first I just wanted to take a second to welcome myself to the M3 community. My goal has been to purchase and own my own E92 M3 since it was first revealed back in 2007. In Summer of 2012 I purchased my first BMW! A 2006 E90 330xi sedan in Black Sapphire. I was on a budget as I was just entering my senior year of high school. The car had a little over 100k miles on it but was in immaculate condition. I purchased it for $12,800 from Fieldhouse Ford in Demotte, IN. The car was bone stock with the windows not even being untouched. To shorten the 5 years I owned it, I will post several photos of it from point A to point B. The point I made of this car was to keep it a reliable daily with its own character to it. I ended up selling the E90 on the 28th of May, 2018 for a WHOPPING $5,500 to a local buddy of mine. The car had 175,000 miles on it, so I took what I could get and went with it.

I know none of you care any of the E90 so now that that's out of the way you'll start learning about the E92...

I had been in the market for an E92 M3 at around $20k to $25k for several months. The more I looked the more I realized, if I wanted a lower mile, well taken care of M3 I would have to spend a little more. I had worked with several seller all the way from Florida and New Jersey, looking for the exact M3 I wanted. Originally my goal mind was set on a Jet Black fully loaded E92 M3 coupe with the 6MT.

Finally on June 9th, 2018. I saw a post on craigslist that was only an hour old pop up for a 2012 Competition Package Alpine White E92 M3. The price was good and I messaged the seller. I happily made the 3 hour drive up to Chicago, pleased I wasn't blindly purchasing an M3 800 miles away. I was originally skeptical on the Alpine White, but the minute I laid my eyes on it I fell in love. I ended up driving back up on...

6/13/2018
Purchased my first E92 M3. Alpine White, 6MT, Comp Package, Nav Package, Enhanced Audio Package. The car had a daily driven 52,102 miles on it. I ended up paying $32,000 for it. The car was a single owner, special ordered from BMW's site when first released. It was also a Cali car for a good 30,000 miles of its life. Very well taken care of, with all service and history reports.

Ps made my buddy fill my gas my while I took the picture JK though

June 14th

The very next day my girlfriend and I took it down to Cincinnati for some Kings Island fun! Car drove great the whole way there and back! This was my first time owning a manual car (I had learned how to drive manual in my buddies Eclipse and 2017 Camaro RS, so I was already familiar with a stick), really helped me learn start learning the vehicle both in stop and go traffic and highway traffic.

By the time I was back home and the car had over 24 hours to sit I had already put more than 1k miles on it!

More Pics for your eyes to see as we go through our month of June:

6/21/2018

I took the car in to my local exhaust shop to have the muffler deleted and 3.5in outlet quad tips installed. The sound was deep and tame, but not enough (more on that later ) Unfortunately the man that did the weld and hanger job did not the best work.

Was in a few days later to have the tip realigned, but did not do the best job on PT. 2 either, only got it straightened a little and closer to the bumper and not hnging as low, still not perfect though...

6/28/2018

Got my Macht Shnell test pipes and 10mm spacers (temporary till I need new tires) in as well as some RGB halo lights in.

I don't have a lot of pictures of parts being unboxed or pictured separate. Will try and do better as I continue upgrading this thread.

7/16/2018

Wrapped the interior trim carbon fiber on my own (saved about $1k doing it) I am happy with my own job, few inperfections here and there, but hey, I am awful at wrapping so I consider it a success. (Will post pictures down below in future update)

7/21/2018 Date of Original Post

The car is running strong. Have been getting several little cosmetic parts in here and there, will continue updating thread as I go. The car now has 54,500 miles on it. I have put a GTS rep front lip on, Carbon Fiber performance trunk spoiler on, and Carbon Fiber rear diffuser on. Carbon Fiber reflector covers for the front bumper are on now. Few other things coming in soon such as new kidney grilles and gloss black sidemarkers.

I will try and keep this thread updated and loaded with pictures as much as possible as I own this and continue improving it. I plan on keeping this a cleaner build (not slamming it or put a fat gt wing on it like my last car)

Some stuff to look out for in updates will be a tune, steering wheel, side skirts, and custom headlights. Any questions or comments are welcome!

In the meantime here are some pictures I've taken and attempted to edit

Beautiful car!! My roommate just bought a very similar e92 to yours, white with comp package. He got it with DCT and with the carbon fiber roof but a comp pack e92 is very hard to come by for some reason. Do you have a goal in mind for where you want the car to end up?

Hello! Congrats on your buddies M3! I was torn between a 6MT and DCT (test drove a DCT), happy with my choice, hope he is as well!!! I plan on keeping it a reliable daily for the next few years, just doing cosmetic upgrades and small performance upgrades (tune, pulley, etc). Long term if things line up i want to purchase a different daily (will need one soon as winter gets closer and closer) and Supercharge it and make it more track oriented! I plan on owning this thing for a WHILE!

Nice find Anthony, sorry the Florida car didn't work out but it looks like you made out pretty good. I was going to suggest getting CF trim but you beat me to it. Way too much going on with the silver, red and black. Can't wait to see interior pics. Great find.

July 21st Update:

Here are a few pictures of the newly wrapped trim! I was probably wrapping that trim for about 7 hours one day, but worth it!

This is a Vorsteiner GTS style diffuser. Not Vorsteiner, but also not $1100 however i do pay the price a little. Fitment is 90% i would say, just slightly not flush in the top right and left. Not noticeable though. Happy saving hundred of dollars for it. But I understand where people are coming from when they purchase an actually Vorsteiner made diffuser.

This is the specific diffuser I purchased. If you have the budget to go better I would. Like i said fitment could have been better. Everything lined up fine to put the stock screws in, but I had to use extra strong 3m, and have scotch tape holding it there for a few days. This helped to insure it stayed flush up at the the top where there are no screwing holding it. I am however happy with it with the budget I'm on and the fitment I achieved! Hope I helped!

Ride is great IMO! I don't have have to much experience on ride comfort on the stock springs, but the lowering spring feel great! I hope to one day switch over to a set of V3 KW's, but $4k I wish the springs gave me a little more rake, but it looks much better than stock ride height!

Side Note: Has any had trouble getting the front turn signals out? Tried to replace them with amber led ones (so they dont reflect in the housing, which creates that orange reflective area), but the holder wont turn enough to turn to pull out the bulb, broke one of the holder tabs doing so! :Let me know!

Out of curiosity, is it possible or does anyone have experience disabling the reflector lights in the headlight housings right in the corners?
