How to sync garage opener to the rear view mirror?

I pressed and released my garage opener learn button, within 30 seconds went to my car, pressed and released, didn’t work, tried again, pressed and held for 10 seconds, didn’t work.

Is it because the car’s opener might not be compatible with my garage?

I have the liftmaster 8500 and it will not work by itself on cars older than 2013. I had to buy a repeater for it to work with older cars. I got it to work on my GTR, but have also tried it on my M3 and haven't had any luck even with the repeater, so I am all ears on this as well.

You may want to look at your opener and see if it requires the above also.

From what I am reading, you have to use your original remote for the opener and use that to code your mirror. I've done it according to the instructions, but it still hasn't taken it.

You have to use the original garage remote to code the mirror buttons. Then after that you can sync the garage opener and the mirror.

^^

Two step process for sure - introduce remote to car, then introduce car to the doors.

Above is correct, but you'll also need to clear any old frequencies out. There are tons of youtube videos on the entire process.
