No LED Lights Under Door Handle

I opened my car last night and I noticed the lights under the drivers door handle was not on. I looked under the handle only to see one LED dimly glowing. Does anyone know how to change out the board these lights are mounted on? I looked in the manual under lamp replacement, and could not find this information. Can I install this lamp system myself, or do I need to make the appointment? I assume they can be replaced without going inside the door to remove the handle itself.

I live 210 miles from the nearest service dealer. At .47 cents/mi to drive the car. It would cost me $98 to replace my warranty light bulb. Not to mention a day of my time, worth much more then the $98.

They shouldnt burn out.

They come in a complete setup per door , with wiring and everything attached.

It aint a easy job to replace

I just called my dealer. He said "we may have to replace the door handel and have to paint it to match the car." Can you imagine not being able to replace your LED module without calling the body shop to.

I dont think they have to replace the handle

The new system should just slot into the old one ( Ill have to confirm )

Maybe its just a loose wire

Had a look

LED boards are cliped into the Lock Covers, so the doors handels dont need to be replaced.

Dont know how they route the wiring inside the door, but it doesnt look easy

I thought it was stupid for the service shop to even suggest that you would have to paint a new handle. I see the LED board listed in the OEM parts lookup. It looks like the LED board has its own part number. I assume I would have to remove the door panel and possible remove the door handle to get the new board installed. It is sounding like something I will have BMW deal with. The suggestion of repainting a new door handle from the service shop is the exact reason I do not want these experts working on my car.

are you getting close to your oil/maintenance service? If so, could you wait then and have it done at that time?

just a thought.

I only have 1400 miles on the car. I would never make a special trip to the shop for this repair. The light is not that big of deal to me, as long as It gets fixed in the next year. I would just like to replace the lamp myself if BMW would allow me.

I am sure they will have no objection if u want to fix it yourself. I don't think it would void any warrantee because they will not know you have replaced the faulty led (unless you tell them).

I don't want to make this thread go off topic, but a lot of people think changing the oil early (especially the first oil change) is a good thing. I would ask your service center to change your oil early because of your unique situation, this way your trip wont be wasted and you'll get that warranty item fixed.
