Got divorced a while back. (Thank God! She was a BITCH!). Almost killed in a car crash some years later in England, I was a passenger. Sued the drivers insurance. Bought an '08 M3 through military sales there and saved $15,000 at least. Got girlfriends but no wife to be a F(*king pain in the ass about me working or cleaning my ride. Loving life ever since.

My wife and i had a lengthy discussion about my '11 M3. She could not understand why i wanted to sell my low mileage and perfect 545i and buy a smaller car with fewer features. Her brain could not process it. She knew i wanted M3 for years, but i don't think she figured i would actually do it. Especially not a new car since i swore off new vehicles years ago. I just couldn't bring myself to purchase a caar that someone else had been abusing in unknown ways.

I'm usually not the one to spend a lot on myself, and always regret spending a lot of money. I don't get buyers remorse, but I sometimes feel sick thinking about, so I usually just impulse buy.

On this particular car, I took more time thinking about it, researching and actually consulted my mother as shes a level headed being. She said I've earned everything, so she actually told me to go for it! She knows what it means to me to be involved in the automotive world, and having her blessing pretty much pushed me to buy it.

No regrets!

One should be happy in a relationship and if it does not work out one should go ones separate ways. At the beginning of our marriage we pledged a 50/50 relationship and it has worked out well for my wife and myself. We both have our separate passions and we respect one another's wishes so based on this solid foundation I am proud to say we just last month celebrated our 50 st wedding anniversary ... sorry to hear yours did not work out, then all worked out for you to the better I see ...

Some discussion is always helpful, in the final analysis it is a car that one purchases for one self so the decision stays with us. I know what you mean about purchasing a used car one needs to get the right information from the sales man and even if that happens one never knows. Times have changed. My next M3 will be one I step into in München at Die Welt with ED. Perhaps next year or in 2014 ... nothing will stop me form ordering one exactly the way I like it ...

The e46 was a great car, I am sorry I sold mine. It was a 2002 and I sold it last year. I might get another just like it for a run around town car ... I know there are quite a few on the market in the US.

Your mom knows best, and you spend your money wisely it is a great car worth every cent. When you think about it the ///M3 Division takes a straight forward 3 Series BMW then replaces about 50 to 60% of the parts on a already fine automobile and ends up with this fantastic legendary M3 it is a sight to behold

I for one do the later and deal with the music after the fact ... then it's done with.

I've purchased my last three Bimmers like that ... just purchased it and came home with the news ... what's your story?
mine was all luck . i had a 2008 335xi that after 15 months had a fuel pump problem or so bmw said. well, in the shop 5 times in 6 weeks for the same problem enabled me get into my M3. and when i first saw it at another dealer in their showroom i knew i would be in the car within 2 weeks and i was for what i thought was a great price. so i thank BMW screwing up the 335 which caused me to get into my M3, if they had fixed it id still be diving that 335 and not be in the monster M3.

Well, my wife could tell I was bored with the 328i when I kept sniffing around Porsche dealerships. I wanted a Porsche Approved(certified) 2005-08 manual 911 or Cayman S. When I couldn't find what I wanted for the price I wanted the research started on the M3. The dealer made me an awesome deal on my barely used 328i and I qualified for some "loyalty" perks. When I ran great numbers past my wife she said "why not." That was it. She has never stepped on my plans/dreams.

Three years ago when I bought my M3, I had been driving a '97 Mercury Mountaineer for 11 years. I decided to get something different. I had the opportunity to drive a Hydrogen 7 in 2007 for six weeks (and interact with the engineers on that program) and that's what led me to BMW. I saw the opportunity to get an Individual M3 (in one of the colors I wanted; LSB or Estoril Blue) so I went for it.

Always wanted an M3.
When photos leaked on the E92 I was hooked.
In 2008 I order an E92. Next day returned to change my order to an E90 because Wife thought 4 doors would be nice. I didn't care, I was getting an M3.
In 2011 Dealer wanted my low mileage 2008 M3.
Traded for a 2011 E90 (now I'm used to 4 doors) ZCP.
Took Euro Delivery with Dad and Son - Very Cool!
Added Supercharger and other goodies.
My Absolutely Wonderful Wife is convinced I'm crazy but happy I'm not chasing Women! Nope, only my next car mod!

2016? Anyone up for the VP job?

I wish someone could explain to me the paradigm of being the breadwinner in the household and then asking permission or needing perseverance to buy something???

1) You're presuming that the man (or M3 driver, at least) is the primary breadwinner. That is not always the case. I know plenty of couples where the wife makes more money (in some cases a LOT more money) than the husband.

2) Even in couples where the wife makes less (or no) money, she is presumably contributing to the household in equivalent but non-monetary ways (e.g., primary caregiver to rug rats).

3) Many people view marriage as a partnership between equals with all resources shared, regardless of who actually acquired those resources. So if one partner wants to spend what is typically considered a large chunk of those resources, they make a joint decision about whether to do it or not.

A gift to myself

Went to court and finalized my divorce first thing in the morning.
Went to work.

at that time, i was deciding about the rs5 and the m3. because there was that heavy rumor that the rs5 was going to make it here in the us in the summer of 2011. but after seeing it in action in europe, i decided to get an m3. but i digress.

My family and i looked at pictures and videos of the two cars and almost unanimously agreed on the m3. and after i came back from london, I went straight to the dealer with my family and ordered it in 20 mins. Took delievery on the 29th of july. and i'm glad i went with the m3.

so to answer your question, the latter

I always wanted one so I saved my money for a while.
My wife was on board the whole time and her only condition; "whatever you get, it needs to have 4 doors". I was ok with it as I was going for an E90 anyways.
