9 year old car with 28,000 KM (~17k miles)
Let's say you are looking at a 2014 with 28k KM / 17k miles on it.
Had all the regular service done at BMW from 2014 to 2017. First oil change was at 2000 KM, and then every 5000 or so it was done. Last mileage recorded in 2017 was 16,000 KM with an oil change. Since then BMW has no record of service. Car put 10k KM (6k miles) in 6 years which is nothing..... but life span of synthetic oil usually lasts what... 1 year or 2? If you were looking at buying this used car would that concern you? If I took it to a 3rd party would they be able to see anything on inspection, I guess they could take a sample of the oil and see that quality of it?? But Im assuming BMW probably changed the oil when they go it....hopefully.... Obviously I'd do a bunch of fluids if I bought it, but Im just worried about how the car was treated at the dealer, or in that 6 year time frame if the PO didnt service it else where... Sorry if this post hurts to read.... appreciate any insight.. |

You don't mention what the car is, but clearly not an M3/4 as none were made in that year. If not an M-car then the list would be quite different. Most BMW's are very robust and there are very few services to be done to a car with under 30k miles. Oil is generally mile-based, but brake fluid is more a time-based thing. I would guess it was garaged during this time, and if that is the case I would not be worried about anything but those 2 right off. Synthetic oils do not break down from just sitting nor will there be much contamination issues with a garaged car.
In any case, sounds like a nice find, and were it me I would just do an oil and brake fluid change and enjoy. Tell us what you are getting so we would maybe have some context with which to offer more detailed advice.

Yah I hear ya. I do my e92 M religiously. But this 60 yo doctor had too many cars lol and traded it in. So I doubt he took it in for maintenance after the 3 year bmw maintenance program he probably purchased or got when he bought the car.
The s63 require a lot of love haha |
