Carly - explained.
So what is required to use this?
An app on iphone? Laptop? A card reader? Usb? How much does it cost? And what can be done with it? What can be coded? Ive done some searched on here for carly but there Are hundreds of links with no clear answers. Thanks. |

I have it. Bought it years ago and use it on my E90 329, E82 135 and E92 M3. To me, it is a basic shade tree mechanic diagnostic tool. It can read most codes and do basic coding for things like folding mirrors and angel eyes. I know others have done more with it. But if you want a true coding and diagnostic tool, this may not be it. You need to buy an app for your phone plus a WiFi adaptor to plus into the OBD port during use. Total cost is around $100. (It has been a while, so don't quote me on price.) I am glad a got it.

Assuming you just download Carly via the App Store for iPhones?

The above post sums this up well. It depends on what you want out of the app. For $15 you can buy a dongle and the torque app. However, with torque you cannot code. You can however setup gauges and read/clear codes. I've using torque for a while and really like it. If coding is what you desire go with Carley.

http://www.mycarly.com/product/bmw-app/ Go to your app store for cost. It can do a lot. All in their website. For best results and garentied compatability just buy their ob2 adaptor

Someone needs to learn how to do better research, those are simple questions.

Information gets spread all around. It requires looking for a needle in a you know what. One link might talk about this or that but leave out cost. One might talk about cost but leave something else out. And I think thats in general an slight issue with forums. Too many information spread out too many places cause anyone can start a topic. Sort of like democracy country. |

Buy it. I have no regrets. For the $$, imo you get a lot more value from carly.
You can also register your battery and do idrive coding for a additional charge as well. Go on there website and view all the coding possibilities. The dongle was like $80 and app was like $50 https://www.amazon.com/Original-Carl...ords=bmw+carly Some of the coding I did via Carly - seatbelt butler delete - seatbelt warning delete - adaptive cornering light delete - tail light daytime running delete - gas warning light edit - dvd in motion - idrive warning message delete(when you start the car) - mirror fold with keyfob and comfort access there's probably a couple more I can't think of at the moment. A forum isn't good use for those type of questions because, the prices changes, information changes as the app get updated new options are available, new products also get created, why search for out dated info? Go directly to the source! Now if you were looking for people's opinion and experience using their products, then a forum would be a great resource for that. Some common sense goes a long way sometimes....

it connects to your phone with blutooth. fairly easy to use. i got it for the ease of programming a new battery. cheaper than going to a 3rd party to do it.

Very well worth it. Having engine temp concerns and it's great for monitoring certain engine parameters as well as the items listed above. If you want to get into advanced coding you will need to invest some time and trial and error but for those that like to tinker it's great.

Adding that it is easy to connect to the downloaded app and I needed nothing else. I connect my iPhone to Carly over the wifi generated from Carly.
Easy peazy lemon squeezy. |

Can someone tell me if the Carly app will detect Emissions readiness status?
I need to get the car smogged. Carly doesn't show any faults right now but not sure if it'll detect emissions faults? Thanks

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I came to learn that it is mated to one VIN, so you can't connect to multiple cars. Anyone else experience this?
This is Horrible, and I feel scammed if that is truly the case!..... |

Yes it is always has been. Nothing to feel scammed about why on earth would you expect tuning/coding software not to be vin specific. They need to protect there product.

Tuning & Coding?...... dimming the fog lights, speeding up the wipers or disabling the seat-belt arm is now considered intellectual property? .... Good thing they are not making spark and fuel changes to the engine maps, and providing it as an off the shelf maps!
You can't even diagnose another BMW or clear the fault-codes.... to me this tool is a waste of money. I should have purchased the hand held device instead! Last edited by DetroitP; 12-04-2018 at 07:30 AM.. |

I bought mine like 3 years ago and I know they just revamped the app in the last few months but I have connected to multiple BMW's using it and have not had an issue.
