This is the line from F Street:
3 Series (6-cyl, including M3;
E46, E90, E91, E92, E93)
(2000-13)
The latest Fastrack clarified the text by eliminating the 6-cyl portion of the text as they confirmed the V8 M3 is indeed properly classed in F-street.

Jay, time to pull the trigger on a car? By the way, good job forcing the SEB to fix the illogical wording.

As someone who is looking to possibly purchase an e92 M in the next couple months, what should I look for in classifieds to indicate a ZCP car if it isnt outright identified other than it being 2011 and up?

Cheers

In pictures, the ZCP wheels, but those are often put on non-ZCP cars too. Take the last 7 digits of the VIN and run it through: http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html Then you can see all the options on the car. Indispensable tool when car shopping.

Much appreciated!

I just moved down to the DC area a couple months ago after being in NYC for almost a decade. Due to how my poor IS was abused while parked, I couldnt justify buying a new car. I had it lightly modded for fun at autox (koni/eibach and TRD bushings) but definitely missed having a true performance car. My car before that one was a 3rd gen RX-7 that I put a LS1 into as well as many other track goodies. That was a very fun car at autox events.

Dc area is looking good for F street. I'm running tomorrow and there are 9 in FS. One I believe trophied at nats in a Shelby gt and sponsored by strano.

I think there are at least 5 e9x m3 and one e46 m3.

Really looking forward to how I'll compare against the competition!

Mark didn't run his E92 M3 in F-street this year, so we'll just have to wonder how E90/92s would have done this year, but E46 M3s did take the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 10th this year with a 2014 Camaro taking 1st by 74/1000ths from the M3 out of ~127 seconds total time.

Jay, did you decide on the E92 M3 yet?

Indeed. FS is the best truly streetable class in Solo right now IMO. Cars can carry kids and groceries on the weekdays everything they need to a weekend event, compete, be a RWD high-Hp, blast to drive, and then drive home. Plus there are at least half a dozen legit competitive cars in class and a couple of them even have four doors (time has shown a 50-100lb weight penalty doesn't kill an FS car, see eg daddio in an optioned up 5.0 one year, so the E90 and later ISF are IMO both contenders. And all of the competitors are highly desirable performance enthusiast cars, no penalty boxes anywhere.

Awesome.

I'm highly interested in this discussion and may join this fray either in a E92 or E46. Retiring my Z3 from STR beatings.

ZCP is worth it if you can swing the extra $ for a 2011+ IMO as a non-ZCP owner.

Any new thoughts on tires for FS 18 x 8.5 & 9.5?
Sounds like the 275 square RE11 worked well for CSBM5.

I have about 40 runs on a set of RS3 275/285 mounted on 18x10 & 18x11 Apex wheels. I'm considering moving them to the stock wheels for FS in 2015 (flip them too). BUT, one of the local (top 3 pax) drivers said the RS3 doesn't like to be squeezed on small wheels, at least in BRZ sizes. Anyone have experience with putting a 275/35/18 on the OEM 8.5 and a 285/35/18 on the OEM 9.5?

Otherwise, I'm just getting new tires. Maybe 275/295 RE11. CSBM5, does it look like the 295 will work in the rear on a 9.5 x 18?

Any other tires to consider? Falken? Toyo?

Thanks

Rival in 275 square or 275/295, or the Dunlop in 265 275 all around would be another idea. Staggered wheels don't mean you have to stagger tires.

The 265/285 rs3 for the non ZCP wheels would be fine a 285 on a 9.5" wheel isn't pinched hardly at all, the 275 maybe a little much but personally don't think it would be slower than the 265 and would wear better most likely. Rs3 does seen to have a softer sidewall than the Rival and Dunlop.

If it were me, having a set of 275/295 contis on my 18x10's right now and having seen the Rival in 295 and 275 mounted in person, I would not hesitate to try that combo first on non-ZCP wheels, it would be my first stop. I would learn to adapt to the weird feel of the tires because at least where I run they are FAST

Better get to testing and find out!

I've only run the Rivals, first 245/40s all around since the 275s weren't available early in 2013, and now the 275/35 all around. Note the Rival is different than typical street tires in that its section width is pretty much carried out to the tread face, so it's not so clear cut what will rub and not rub if you're trying to compare to a current setup that doesn't rub.

Richbot is spot on in the above. Also, if you have an adjustable front sway bar, you can at least have a potential chassis tuning point if you switch from 275 all around to 275/295. I like the balance of the car currently with the 275s all around, especially on tighter/slower courses where having a more lively rear is desirable. I'd like to try it with the 295s however...

Speaking of 295s...I think the 295/35 Rival will fit as long as the offset is near stock (you're allowed +/-6.35mm). Right now with the 275 Rivals, I'm at (35mm-18mm) 17mm net offset in the rear, and it would be tight with the fender. Stock offset is 23mm, and something in that range might be needed for the 295/35 Rival.

FWIW, here's a pic of 275/35 Rivals, one on the 8.5" wheel the other on the 9.5":

There is room for the 315/30 rival in back so there's no doubt the 295 will fit unless you're running stancetastic offsets

There's a post in the 1-series forum stating BFG has a new compound Rival coming, so you might want to wait until next season to buy the Rivals since this one is almost over. Perhaps this is what the guy in Monterey was referring to when discussing the PSC2 for street tire?

Guys-

I had 255 Rivals on my FR-S STX-prepped car & really did not care for them. The R-S3 was faster (especially in the heat) & the Rivals had tread splice issues & heat-cycled out quickly.

People suggest that the R-S3s cycle out quickly. The Rivals put them to shame in that respect...

I'd also suggest Dunlop ZIIs over the Rivals, as well.

My .02
