Need some advice on my trade in vehicle
With my new M on order and coming in within the next week or so, its got me rethinking my decision to trade in my current car. I have a 2004 325CI with 44000 miles. Dealer is giving me 9k (car was a manufacturer buyback) for it and I'm thinking of keeping it for a winter car/beater instead of trading in. If I did trade it in, the M would double up as a winter car. What do you guys think? Also I should add, the car has no major problems.

Keep the e46 as your daily driver/beater so you can put less mileage on your M3.
I have an e30 as a beater and an e46 as a daily driver. my m3 is for weekend/special trips. Your e46 is reliable and will make a perfect daily driver. |

I would agree. In Chicago, IL your are going to get some crappy winters, potholes and horribly salted roads (like you already don't know .. ). Keep your car (as you may have paid it off already) as a 2nd car. As much as the //M3 is a very capable daily-driver (even in the winter with proper shoes), its worth keeping it pristine as a 3-season car (at the most).
You should still try and shop around (private party included) to sell your e46. If you get a great deal .. sell it and buy something really-really cheap for the bad days. I still think that a bmw (regardless of whatever model it is) is not worth being a winter "beater" .. ! |

sell it if : you won't drive the old car much, can't afford to keep it, don't want another car to take care of
keep it: if you plan to use it alot, still like it, and don't need the money above all, whats your instinct telling you? |

I agree,, keep your e46 as a daily to save miles on your M3.. better for resale.
plus getting a worry free car with less miles at the price your selling for it a hit or miss. And you already know your e46

Yeah, I decided to keep it, as it has no problems and the dealer isnt giving me anything significant for it. Plus its great on gas
