Magnaflow 14816 for E92. Need to cut bumper or not?

Trying to do research on the Magnaflow 14816 Mufflers to be put on my 12 E92 M3 and there seems to be a lot of confusion. For the members that have a E92 M3 that got the Magnaflow 14816 Mufflers installed, did you have to cut or shave the bumper to make it fit? Anything else I should know??

Thank you in advance for clearing this up!

Are you worried about the dual tips being too wide to fit the stock opening?

Is that Magnaflow Part # 14816 or is that the whole exhaust system offered by Magnaflow (I forget the Part #)???

So no issue with fitment? Members kept saying there is an issue with fitment because the Coupe's bumper is a little longer than the Sedan's bumper

Also, those do not look like the exhaust tips that come on Magnaflow Part # 14816. Yours look flared out at the end, while the pictures I have been seeing are even width and rolled angled at the tip end...

I have used that muffler on E46 non M cars and e39's. It is a generic muffler, it might be really tight on each side...but I bet it could be done for $300-$400 range at an exhaust shop...good sounding muffler and fairly light about 14 pounds each.

I have the Magnaflow kit for the e92, and mine do not stick out as far as TMR's (barely, hard to tell). There is obviously some minor adjusting you can do to suit your taste.

Okay, so yours is NOT Part # 14816...

Not sure how this helps my question, but props on a good looking set-up

Why would you try to do something custom when they are so many good options out there? If you custom fab connecting pipes, you're going to spend more than a good system or you're getting crappy power robbing crush bent non-stainless piping. If you are cutting your stock pipes, factor in the cost of buying a whole stock exhaust when you sell the car. You're gonna spend ~$400 on the 14816, plus $200 for welding and installation.

Then you're going to melt your bumper, and come crying to the forums when your custom exhaust flops around and drones like hell...

I'm not normally one to be an exhaust snob, and I've made my own exhausts when it made sense, I welded up an exhaust for my old Eclipse GSX from Burns stainless parts. It just doesn't make sense with the e92 M3. Either do the exhaust mod on your stock pipes or pony up for a real exhaust that fits properly.

My M3 will be a lease. I can't justify replacing the whole exhaust when I can just to do an axle back. Hacking off the huge stock muffler and welding on the 2 separate mufflers will be the cheapest route, not to mention, the easiest route when at lease end, I have to return back to stock. If I owned the car, I'd go all out and do a FULL exhaust, but for now, I'm just looking for better sound. The performance gain or lost won't be felt.

Please, for the love of all that is good about used cars, do NOT hack off the rear muffler and weld on cans. Get a Megan Racing exhaust for $500. It bolts on and bolts off and sounds fine. It'll not only be cheaper, but you won't ghetto cheeseburger melt your rear bumper. No muffler shop I've seen welds the stock cans back on properly, with stainless wire and purge gas.

Here we go again...first black replica wheels and now do nothing droning crap cans on the back of a brand new ZCP car.

In this case, less is much more. Take some time off to do nothing and enjoy the car as is by leaving it stock for a few months. After then reevaluate your choices in mods.

Have you ridden in a e9x M3 with magnaflows? If not, I suggest that you demo a car that has it installed. There is a drone, not terrible but present.

I'd love to take a ride in one but chances of me doing that before I make my decision is slim to none. I'll take your word for it but I don't mind a little drone just as long as the trade off is a more aggressive tone over stock.

I can say this because I installed one for someone with a e92 M3 about a year ago. No cutting of the bumper was required it bolted right on. It did require some time to adjust it so that tips would align which was annoying. It does in fact sound better than OEM but if you are sensitive to droning like me it may not be your cup of tea.

It is NOT a little drone. It's a wife won't ride in the car, makes my ears bleed, neighbor retaliation, small animal killing, world oil supply depleting drone.

The Megan has a couple of tip options, the rolled tips look like the Magnaflow, if you don't like the torched tip look. (which are a lot better looking than melted bumper)
